Not to my knowledge unfortunately. And while the controls for the main game are good for the most part, they are a bit slippery at times

It can happen . As long as you can switch between the joystick thing and the cross, I'm fine.

Darn it. The controls for the other special zone areas using the touchscreen seemed to work pretty Darn well. Stupid gimmicks...

Having finally done all the Special Stages, I can confirm that Super Sonic returns in game. You have to get 50 rings, then you just touch the Chaos Emeralds icon on the bottom screen and Sonic goes super.

I've already had a pretty negative opinion of this game, and seeing a lot of an entire playthrough of the game, it seemed that everything I thought badly about this game was actually worse. However, I heard hours ago that the 3DS version got a demo, so I DLed it and tried it....didn't enjoy it al that much.

So, I already didn't like the music, bad villains, bad storyline, looking like Mario, but the gameplay is barely enjoyable as well, and I'm not even the type to judge games purely on gameplay, but like many Nintendo titles, it's the only thing to give a care about in this game.

I'm still on the fence about buying this, but if I do, it's gonna be a used copy, I'm not paying full price fo dis crap, I was already disapointed with Sonic generations.....

Meh, you do what you want.

I like this game, but it's between Sonic Generations/Black Knight/Unleashed (favorite games) and Sonic Adventure 2: Battle (#7). I like the music, but the parkour is painful to master. I also don't like how you jump from rails because it reminds me of Adventure 2/Heroes/06 rail jumping, which is not my favorite kinds of rail jumps. If they made the B button the run trigger and the LRs the Side Step/Rail Jump, this game would have been my favorite of the series. But meh.

I can only speak for the 3DS version, but I'd say if you must get it, wait for the price to drop. I haven't finished it yet, but I'm close. It starts off really promising but gradually goes downhill from Tropical Coast onwards; wisp powers become mandatory for some sections and there are some horrible level designs, Frozen Factory Act 3 being one of the worst. In general the levels drag on for too long, and then there are the pointless gyro controls for Special Stages, and some Wisps, that have you spinning around your room.

It's certsinly not broken or unfinished, there are just some poor design choices. You really should try for yourself, this is only my opinion after all. I think there's a demo for both the Wii U and 3DS versions.

Welp... here I was, about to do a (very late) review of Lost World 3DS, but Shadow here has pretty much summed up everything I would've said in it. Ah well...

But yeah, I wouldn't recommend it at full price either. However, if you've got the skills to get past terrible level designs, then I guess you won't find it too bad.

Is there a Yacker in this game?

Wikipedia claims he is, but it doesnt say what he does. (and he's definitely not part of the story)

I believe Yacker has a cameo-of-sorts on the World Map in the Wii-U version, though I could be wrong. And yeah, none of the Wisps are story-related.

EDIT: For those of you with the Wii-U version of Sonic Lost World, SEGA have just recently released a patch, which adds some 'new' features:

  • Collecting 100 rings will now grant the player an extra life.
  • In the event of a Game Over, we have doubled the amount of lives the player will begin with when continuing. (From 5 to 10)
  • The Indigo Asteroid, Crimson Eagle, Orange Rocket, and Black Bomb Color Powers can now be controlled using the analog stick and buttons.
  • Fixed a rare graphical issue that would sometimes appear during the pinball section of the Frozen Factory casino area.
  • When completing the NiGHTMARE DLC, users will be notified that they can re-play it after scoring 100,000 points.
  • Items will now appear on the world map.

So now, those of you who were disappointed with the game should find this helpful... or not. (I can't judge the game myself since I don't have a Wii-U.)

Yacker does make a minor appearance on the World Map in the Wii U version. He lets you "wisp away" items over Miiverse and receive items via Miiverse.

And hey, look! New DLC!

Heard Lost World's getting Legend of Zelda DLC. This should be interesting. And while they're at it, are they making any Pikmin and Metroid DLC by any chance?

Honestly, I can't understand why this game gets so much hate. I just played the 3ds version, I should add that, since I don't own a WiiU. But especially the 3ds Version of this game seems to be very disliked.

On my own, I really had a lots of fun with this game. And really, the Zeti's were just perfect! I enjoyed them a lot. The gameplay was very nice and well made, even tho the puzzle-level tend to be very annoying. But the 2D-Levels were too much fun, so I can forget those puzzle-level easily. Once you figured out how to clear the puzzles it is peanuts anyways.

The game is not perfect, but it's not bad at all. The bonus stages are horrible tho. I can't deny this.

I'd be happy if there would be a 2nd part with the Zeti's. If they will fix the flaws, it'd be great.

Well I fired up my 3DS copy on Monday, for practicality the first time despite getting it one release day. So, first impressions:

And after beating the first boss I had to put it down. I wasn't annoyed with it, but I knew that unless I played it in shorts bursts I would be.

Basically, there is too much going on. The 3D round worlds make navigating hard to follow. Having two different attacks that have different effects is awkward, moreso when you're trying to spot exactly which badnik you're locked onto and which attack you need to use. Having a speed-boost button during the parkour bits is unnecessary (why can't we just use the run button). And on the subject of the run button, surely it would work better as a 'slow' button. Which leads to the context sensitive controls. There is too many differences in what the controls do. And if you want to do a stomp when you have a lock...

On the Wii U with a bigger screen, and the visuals being easier to follow, maybe some of these issues would be lessened.

Now, a lot of these things are good ideas when taken alone. But I feel there's TOO many when you put them together, which means the whole product is overburdened and complicated.

It's not really bad, but it's not good.

Ironically, if this game wasn't about Sonic, and hence had a slower pace in general, I think it might have made for a great platformer.

Except for the special stages. At least my dog was amused by my antics.

I have the same feelings as Skye, though I probably dislike this game more.

(Talking about the 3DS version by the way)

Really, except for the music, I do not have any positive commentary on this game. The only thing I would point out is that Sonic Team clearly has put a lot of time into this game, and I can see that. But really, for every good thing a bad thing beats it. The stages were good adjusted to Sonic his new mechanics, but they took extremely long and they didn't really have original themes going for them. The mechanics were new but I hated them. ESPECIALLY the gyroscope functions. Please, whenever I'm playing on the 3DS, I'm lying on my bed. I don't want to stand up and move the 3DS in all directions just to make Sonic move. That's just plain awful. The bosses were.. original too I guess, but they all sucked except for Zamok (the Red one) and I guess Eggman, though it has some elements of the Nega Wisp Armour and it has a one-hit k.o move. Somewhere at the end of the fight. That... no, I'm not gonna talk about it.

The music is really outstanding though, as mentioned before. They have done a great job on this again.

However, it saddens me to say that I won't touch the game anytime soon again, because I really didn't like it. And it has so much bonus content, it hurts me. Chaos emeralds (Worst special stages ever though), Red Rings, Hard modes of every stage, you name it and it's here. Probably I will take them on once I got those negative feelings about the game out of my head, but until then... no, I won't.

On that note... I had more fun with Sonic '06.

Not sure if other people encountered this problem with the 3DS version but did anyone encounter a lot of cheap deaths towards the end of the game? I found on the Wii U version that towards the end of the game, last world I believe it was or maybe second last, especially with that lava level that I had to go stock up on lives even though I hadn't found much difficulty with the game at all earlier. I could have beaten the game the day I got it had I not raged quit towards the end there.

Also, I know Sonic has never really been the most story driven of games and that I was pretty much expecting the ending that we got, but why did the final boss have to be such a let down? What happened to the good old days where the boss battles were so hyped up to? I mean Generations sorta did that but the boss was still a bit of a let down as well.

I can't speak for the Wii-U version (especially with the patch updates and DLC), but the 3DS version of Lost World gets absolutely RIDICULOUS near the endgame! Even if you have the highest amount of patience, you'll still hate it. I barely made it through as it was. And if you thought that's bad... there's a Hard Mode afterwards.

That's the new Sonic games for ya. Sure, Gens kinda hyped up the Time Eater, and even Colours had a fair bit of foreshadowing the Nega-Wisp Armour, with the big Nega-Wisp area in Asteroid Coaster, but the final bosses have been pretty lackluster. Although, while I think the Nega-Wisp Armour was a decent finale, the final boss in Lost World (does it even have a name?) was just a blatant rehash of that boss, only easier. I could go on, rambling about why I dislike the most recent Sonic storylines, but I don't want this post to go over the limits. I'll just say that Unleashed (as well as Adventure 2 & Riders, to an extent) is my favourite storyline so far.

I really don't know why the boss from Lost world was such a mess. I think Sega was trying to avoid the "Eggman gets betrayed by the creature that he tried to control and it turns on everyone for the final boss battle' point, mainly because it's been done enough. It was interesting though that when they decided to do it for Lost World that they timed it earlier into the game so it WAS the plot instead of the 'twist' for the boss fight. Even so, Sega really could have done a lot better with the final boss. It wasn't all that memorable in design either. I can't really remember what the mech even looked like. Only reason I'd ever replay the boss over again is to miss that one red ring.

truth be told, I wouldn't care all that much about a weak storyline if the gameplay was really fun and well structured and the bosses were interesting without being cheap.

I agree with you about the common Sonic 'twist' being played in Lost World right at the beginning as a good thing, especially since it meant that we got to see more interaction between the characters. (Namely Eggman. He's just great in that game, in my opinion.) The only thing I found to be 'memorable' about the final boss design is that it bears a resemblance to Eggman's Classic design. Aside from that, nothing else. (Well... that's not entirely true, I kinda liked the green energy 'cape'...)

Truth be told, I wouldn't care all that much about a weak storyline if the gameplay was really fun and well structured and the bosses were interesting without being cheap.

Oh, I get what you mean. While I'm not a fan of the recent stories, that certainly doesn't mean games like Colours or Generations are bad. I still go back to Generations or Sonic 3&K much more than I do Unleashed or the Adventure games, and definately more than Riders. The gameplay will always be the most important parts of Sonic games (or just games in general), but when possible, I'd like to see a game with both an interesting storyline, as well as excellent gameplay. But that's for another topic.
