Sonic Generations is a game for the 20th Anniversary of Sonic the Hedgehog, which features both modern and classic versions of characters from the Sega Mega Drive games. The plot doesn't seem to be very complicated: there's some creepy time eating monster who mixed the time up and made both of the hedgehogs (the classic and the modern) meet, and now they have to figure out how to put an end to it while running through the various zones – from the very Green Hill till the Sonic Colors' Planet Wisp.

The game comes in two versions – the one for modern consoles and PC (yeah, finally) and the other for 3DS, which features different levels and maybe something else.

So, what do you expect from this one? Will it put an end to the war between retro- and modern fans? What will the fans of Adventure series say? Discuss!

I think it's an awesome game for 20th anniversary of Sonic. Good idea, beautiful graphics, super music. I haven't got other words to discribe it. Also I'm going to buy Nintendo 3DS version of Sonic Generations.

I will admit I was sceptical at first. It may not have as good of

a storyline as the Adventure games did, but It's not about story

or the voice actors. It's about celebrating 2o years of Sonics life.

(I bought the game for PC and didn't enjoy the game aas much as I do now with an XBOX 360 controller.) This game was totally worth the Money.

But... If I could complain it's that the game was too short. they should have made it longer. THat, and It's really easy to get an S rank too.

Haha, Sonic Generations was the only Sonic game I ever got all S-ranks. I thought the difficulty was very nice once you got used to it; much easier than Sonic Unleashed, which I never could seem to adapt to.

Yeah, I can see how the 3D levels would be bad with the keyboard controls.

The game was actually so short, my friend came over, picked it up, and beat it in one all-night run, and he had not really played much Sonic before... I feel like the physics and design techniques are so different in Generations that being a long-time player doesn't really help.

If it was longer and it had more acts and bosses i would give it a 100% cool game.

It may have its flaws, but sega did very well on a 20th anniversary game. Sonic is really coming back into the gaming industry like the only days, and he certainly deserves it.

Sonic generations might actually be my 3rd of 4th favourite sonic game. The stages were greatly created for both 2d and 3d, with good controls which I really wanted to see.

The story was a bit on the bad side though, and I just can't forget about the duration. Though I've played it many times again after I completed, it's still a shame.

Hmm, Generations was short, but all the old Sonic games were pretty short, too. Nevertheless, the shortness was definitely the most anticlaimactic point of the game. The standards of game design have changed so that lengthy games are really to be expected. Shorter games were acceptable back in the 'day because cartridges could only contain so much data and development was extremely slow because of the low-level tools required for the game. But now, knowing that there are no such limitations on the systems or developers, it's tough to justify having such a short game. Yes, the art assets take much longer to perfect, and yes, there are budget and people constraints. We all recognize that no developer has unlimited resources. However, it still reflects badly on the development team to make such a short game.

Do you think that maybe the developers should focus less on art quality and more on art quantity? I mean, Sonic 1, 2, and 3 had a looping background for most of their levels, but they did more than OK. You can hardly argue that the art in those games were bad. Clever repitition of a few graphical assets contributed to the experience of Sonic 2, for example. In Sonic Heroes, for example, you had that one scene where a stone rolls after you. Did that stone ever show up again? Nope. In the old games, if there was a gimmick that was used only once, it was regarded as an irregularity. Maybe the unwillingness to reuse certain art assets is what shortened the game so drastically.

Sonic generations was everything I wanted in a sonic game. It not to easy or to hard well getting an S - rank is easy but it better then 06, unleashed, and colors I just wish the game was long like have two stages from every game like

sonic 1 green hill and starlight zone

sonic 2 Emerald hill and casino night zone

sonic 3 Hydro city and sky sanctuary

sonic adventure Twinkle park and speed highway

sonic adventure 2 city escape and final rush

sonic heroes seaside hill and casino park

sonic 06 Wave ocean and Crisis city

sonic unleashed (Well all the day stages are good enough to be in this game)

sonic colors Tropical Resort and Starlight carnival

It's a shame Sega never released any DLC for the game. If you search youtube for Sonic Generations Mods you'll find some amazing stages created by fans. Nice ideas by the way, though in my opinion, you counted way too many ocean/green hill stages ;)

Besides, it was only "half-new". Lost World will be more exciting.

Yes, but Nintendo is smart with software. Remember Zelda: Skyward Sword, anyone? This is one reason Sega and Nintendo made a partnership.

Actually, I'd like to see other levels and music redesighned or maybe even SG2 with Sonic & Sonic working together. There is an awesome base of remixes, so... why not? I think it would be interesting to combine levels we saw in SG with "double-sonic-playing".

Why would he care ? It's like Archie back in 99, when they had to write a sonic adventure story.
