  1. Goodbye Archie Sonic, I'll miss you..

  2. WTH another lawsuit against Archie?? Scott Fulop following in the ways of Penders, except even more utterly ridiculous is that he's claiming characters that aren't even USED anymore. Why is this fool trying to get paid for obsolete content??? -_-

I feel like Penders indirectly inspired other former freelancers with the initial lawsuit over his characters, so now everyone else is getting greedy because they’ve seen they can get away with it. Do you think the guy who came up with the Daleks still gets paid every time they appear in an episode of Doctor Who? Or that the creators of Batman TAS get paid every time Harley Quinn shows up anywhere? The logic of these people...

Er.........As to the Dalek example, yes, he does. (If he's still alive) He OWNS the Dalek idea. That is why the Cybermen were created as a replacement for the Daleks as he was trying to market a Dalek TV show in the states, so the Dr Who writers had to come up with a new main villain. Also, at the very least up to Genesis of the Daleks, he wrote the first draft of all the Dalek stories....

  3. Another lawsuit?? Just give it a rest already Penders. http://www.tssznews.com/2015/10/20/ken-penders-hints-second-lawsuit-in-tweet/

Um... I'm not sure that was such a great idea. Kind of pointless too since hes not going to listen to us complaining. Hes going to blame it on Archie or SEGA (like hes already doing in his tweet)

I know dylan but it's worth a try. that and who's to say this lawsuit is about sonic?

  4. Ken Penders Topic...

Major news everyone, it seems Penders is hinting at another lawsuit in a recent tweet of his. You can read about it here: http://www.tssznews.com/2015/10/20/ken-penders-hints-second-lawsuit-in-tweet/ Honestly if this really happens again it will be utterly ridiculous, what did Archie do to make his pipes explode again? The comic has been rebooted and no longer feature his characters, then it must be the reprints?? But even those are trying to avoid reprinting his material, they've changed the graphic novels title arcs or avoid featuring his characters on the covers. Sonic Legacy and Knuckles Archives have already been cancelled obviously because of this, if Sonic Archives gets cancelled I'm going to be very P*ssed because that is the only graphic reprint series reminding that I'm still willing to pay for.
  5. Sad moments

I remember reading Mobius: X years later where Sonic's kids were wiped out from existence because of the altered timeline, while the final print's panels of Sonic crying were sad to see the original has even more feels, just check out Tracey Yardley's DA scraps to see what I mean. Family death, especially kids, is no laughing matter. People like Lien-Da and Fiona Fox's backstories were sad to read as it was what made them turn evil ultimately, they wouldn't be if they had a good childhood. I was empathetic to Fiona more and I wish she hadn't turn evil, couldn't blame her though for all that's happened. Character deaths throughout the series were very sad but the one that hit me the most was Nate Morgan. The poor guy really didn't deserve to die, he was brilliant intellectually yet his crappy luck made him suffer so much from both Overlander and Mobian alike. His death was chilling to see and so utterly frustrating no one cared after that. Let me think of other significant character deaths: Hope's family dying was a very tragic one. Like Nate, it was chilling to see them get Roboticized, whats more by their own relative, none other than Eggman himself. Reading issue 105 itself already gives you so much feels.Tobor's story was another sad one to read. Got his identity swapped with his enemy for the reminder of his life and never seeing his family again, only to come back briefly and end up dying.I felt sad to see the Ancient Walkers die as the storylines involving them were so interesting in the older issues. Ian Flynn wanted to remove them as they were God-like characters, thus not wanting religious stuff in the series from what I remember.Mecha was another character I felt sad to see go. I personally liked her and being completely loyal to Eggman till the end caused her death, I mean she self-destructed under Eggman's orders despite being wrongly accused! Just wanted to put it out that I never cared for Tommy Turtle and I was happy to see him go, I mean almost everyone including Ian Flynn hated how they brought him back from the dead to join the Freedom Fighters and it was done so forcefully that made him so pathetic. Ian made a good decision to kill him off, at that time all the fans were waiting for it.Locke was a interesting character in the series and it sucked personally to see him die, I mean it was weird, him and Knuckles' relationship was written well and it felt empty without him in the series after that. I always felt he was never dead but that he's just somewhere out there to be found again.Remington crying over the demise of the Brotherhood of Guardians. I mean we never knew if they were truly dead or not because what is known was that they were tossed into the Twilight Zone by Dr Finitevus. It made me think for the other Echidna characters who died around the same time too, most perished by Eggman's Egg Grapes, they were all were classics in the older issues I loved. While the idea of Charmy Bee being a prince was the only idea from the old continuity I disliked, it was nonetheless tragic to see his entire colony killed along with his family. Aside from Saffron Bee they never found any survivors.Geoffrey thinking that Hershey is a goner was more than enough to feel sympathy for. The poor skunk only joined Naugus because he has nothing important in his life left, only to realize Naugus is just as twisted as any other villain is, so chilling to see him get possessed and being technically "erased" from existence when the Genesis Wave hit. What fan who read the comics before the reboot wouldn't feel devastated to know so many beloved characters got wiped out by the wave?

Yup! I drew heavily from references and the comics I had, all done in my own poses however. Alot of Steven Butler and Tracy Yardley influence I suppose..  :D
  9. General Art Thread

Hey guys, it's been awhile since I last came here. I thought I'd tease you all with something:     Ta da, since last year I've been sketching out the entire main cast of Sonic Archie prior to the reboot. Planning to place them all together when I'm done and I'm far from finished. Hope you like it! :)
  10. The Archie Sonic Artist Thread

Hey people, I've been wanting to start this for sometime. Here's where we can discuss about all the Archie Sonic artists who've drawn for the comic since the beginning till now. You can list who's your favorite, talk about their latest work and your opinions on each of them. Just talk anything about them. I'll start with who I can remember.. Art Mawhinney - I liked Mawhinney's artwork for the comic as he made everyone resemble their SATam designs. I always preferred him over Dave Manak when the two where the main artists for the series during the classic era. However I felt when the cast was updated to their Sonic Adventure designs he totally didn't fit the comic anymore, even mistakenly drawing Amy and a few others in their older designs at some points. Big blunder. He'll be remembered however for his classic work. Dave Manak - I wasn't really a fan of Dave's artwork but his artwork really had the "Archie" feel as he illustrated the Archie comics of Archie himself. But same as Mawhinney, I felt he didn't fit the book with the characters receiving their updated designs. His artwork got sloppy towards the end of his run. He was still a classic artist, won't forget him. Patrick 'Spaz' - WOW, simply that. Spaz was so awesome when he started out and his covers were so inspiring with all the details. I enjoyed his interior art too, his artwork for the Archives and Selects are like, whoa, he can really do many styles. But spaz fell out of favor when Sonic got his updated design, I think he still did the covers well until issue 89 where Sonic just looks off to me. Despite that I think his covers were fine until issue 100 (except 92 & 99), after that his covers weren't good anymore, he couldn't draw modern Sonic. Spaz didn't get better again until around Ian took over as head writer. His modern Sonic is now acceptable but it doesn't make me go "WOW!" anymore with his covers. I think he's up to do interior art again after seeing his Worlds Collide covers, he seems to have mastered it now but compared to his older artwork, it was much better then. I still mostly enjoy seeing his work however. Sam Maxwell - I actually enjoyed his artwork. He had style and was good with poses and hands but when he first started I found it odd that he drew the characters with blank faces and closed mouths when they were talking or having emotion. He improved to the end of his run and his artwork had more effort and detail. It's a shame he didn't come back after issue 87 as he got much better and I personally would like to see his direction. Maxwell is one of my average artists of Sonic to me. Manny Galan - I was didn't like Galan's work at first as he oddly drew Tails with a neck (LOL) among other awkward stuff. He started to do better after the End Game saga and I particularly enjoyed his work for Knuckles, he felt really suited for it. I suppose the flaw about his work is that he draws awkward mouths or poses. Not a favorite but likeable I would say. Steven Butler - I've enjoyed Butler's artwork all the way except a few issues. This guy's close to my top but not totally. He did a great job when he first started out and I can easily say that his artwork for issues 61 - 75 was his best for the series. After that he added more human proportions to the Sonic cast which I didn't mind but I can understand this is mostly why some people don't like his work. But I totally didn't mind as there was more details. I enjoyed his style until issue 233 where his artwork dropped in quality and I was disappointed. As I continued reading the passing issues I got so sick of his artwork I couldn't wait for Tracey to come back but to my surprise his artwork got good again with the Endangered Species arc. He deserves to stay and I continually enjoy seeing his work. The guy's also good with robots and machinery as one of the positive points. James Fry - I loved his anime style when he first started out. Seeing the Sonic cast in his style gave me a picture of what the archie characters would have looked like if they were in an anime. He does a good job doing interior work with the panel placements. At some points his artwork got real sloppy particularly with the Sonic Adventure Adaption and the Darkest Storm, the former is because the arc was rushed so it was understandable, the latter I felt it that there wasn't much effort but still decent. Overall I enjoyed his animeish work and I wished the guy was still around. Ron Lim - Oh man, the worst regular penciler. Hated this guy's artwork, no offense to anyone but really. Honestly speaking his artwork was actually good when he first started, just a little sloppy. His style was acceptable until issue 100 where it was the point I heavily disliked his artwork, it really got worst as the comic progressed. The only good thing I can say about his work is that he drew human characters well, Nate Morgan, Mecha Robotnik, etc. He just wasn't meant for Sonic but for human comics. If the guy had kept his pervious style I would have enjoyed it, now its just horrid for me to look at. Glad he's gone. Jay Axer - I really, really loved this guy's work for the series and he's one of my top. He really outshined Spaz during the bad period of the comics as Spaz's artwork deteriorated. His details were outstandingly fantastic in every way. I enjoyed all his frontis artwork he did during his run, it was something of the comics I miss and hope to see again. However he sometimes overdid his work with a little too much detail and he was more of an illustrator, that's why he doesn't do well in action poses. But in all honesty, he is the only artist that I felt who deserved to have stayed on. Its one big shame he didn't. A favorite of mine still.. Jonathan Gray - When I first saw Gray's artwork I was like "who is this terrible artist?" That's what I first thought, until I realized this guy really had style. I enjoy his artwork now, I have to admit it was hard for me to take the story seriously with his cartoony style. That's why he does awesome with off-panel! Way past funny guy and his style has improved now, I totally don't mind if he does a backstory once in awhile but I don't think he's suited for main stories. He has many funny panels and expressions in his drawings that make me wanna crack sometimes. He even draws the characters cute looking at times as well, and oh that Tails Doll.. Tracey Yardley - Who doesn't love this guy's art? He was the first inspiration for me when drawing Sonic as an artist. I was so heavily engrossed in his artwork when I got into the comics that I looked at everything he had for inspiration. He really is the artist who does best at expressions, some of the them are so unique I've never seen them before. However recently I feel Tracey's artwork has been real sloppy with issue 236, his covers are also like this. He still does Sonic Universe as awesome as ever and I love his writing. Although being one of my first inspirations in drawing Sonic he isn't my top actually, he used to be but I like Ben Bates' style better now despite similar art. Nonetheless, I still enjoy Tracey's work and he really deserves to stay until the end. He's the one artist whom I don't expect to leave the comic. Ben Bates - This dude is really a professional, I've fallen in love with his artwork when I first read issue 230 mistaking his artwork for Tracey until I realized so. Now I don't understand how I mixed them up. Anyway, checking the back issues he did I was impressed and he is currently one of my top and possibly favorite. I love how he draws everyone in Sega style, it looks so simple yet awesome. I even bought issue 224 after it was long released just for his artwork. He sadly hasn't been doing any interior art for Sonic recently and I'm looking forward to his future work for Worlds Collide and after. The cover of 253 has gotten me so hyped up about him again. I personally prefer him over Tracey but Tracey still does better in expressions. Yup, he's real good, inspiring and a favorite. Jamal Peppers - I didn't really notice Jamal's work for the series as it looked similar to Yardley's style and I thought he had a real problem drawing shapes for some reason. His drawing of heads just look weird. It wasn't until issue 242 with the Olympics that his artwork style changed and it looked real good, even inspiring. His Worlds Collide was amazing and I'm surprised he does Mega Man so well too. I realized his such a good artist and I look forward to him doing more issues, he really needs more spotlight. Evan Stanley - When I first saw her work I thought she had an interesting style, I'm starting to like her work but sometimes she does awkward gestures and her drawing of Sonic's and other's arms look too fat. I'm happy to see her work as the book hasn't had different artist styles in a long time. Tracey, Bates and Jamal's art look too consistent with not really much difference. Her style is unique and suiting for backstories and I'd like to see her do more. Lamar Wells - For me he's average but talented, his pencils always look better than the final inks to me for some reason but he can really draw Sonic and the cast good, although he mostly draws their hands looking too human like and not Sega like. He has a lot of good ideas for Sonic as seen on DA and I want to see him illustrate an issue as I can't really judge now. He's a rising artist and his work is looking good actually, looking forward to his direction. These are the artists who were memorable for me. I'm not even sure who to pick as a favorite, either J.Axer or Ben Bates, I can't even choose!!! Their both awesome! So yes feel free to discuss and agree or disagree but don't turn it into an argument please, you don't have to follow my post style also. Let's hear what everyone has to say on their favorite artists. ;)
  11. Ken Penders Topic...

What on earth seriously, signing and selling an issue he completely had nothing to do with. I wonder if Ian has even heard of this, I'd be ticked if someone sold my products you know. Oh word that image Penders made is horrible, he really needs to take art classes. I'm only an art student in college and I can see all the mistakes on it, bad coloring choices.
  12. Ken Penders Topic...

My word, this is utterly Meanieed. I knew he would do something pathetic like this, pah, I'm sure his fanbase would understand how we feel now. How much more nonsense will he come up with? Possibilities are endless with his so called 'logic'. Well thank you Penders for screwing up the comics that Ian and Archie had to reboot and now screwing up your own characters. The negativity towards you is obviously because your ideas are stupid and you've got to change them, not to mention your ego centric personality. Selfish derp, the comics are going to die all because of you, cared for nothing but your own creations, it was never about Sonic in the first place, you never played any of his games! That's why you took Sonic Chronicles the wrong way when they simply paid homage to the characters you made, not stealing them you dumb ass. Yes I still don't get how anyone can respect or support him. His meddling has been seen from the very beginning, first ruining SATam's 3rd season and next with Archie Comics then his very OWN comic, which will utterly fail. Look at what's happened, he went around ruining people's happiness obviously of jealousy because SATam and Archie would have better business than him. Sure the attentions all on him now, but like I give a hoot about his boring work. Doesn't even know how to write a proper good story.
  13. Ian mentioned on BumbleKing that Dulcy's coming back in the Comic soon! YES! :D So happy she's goin' reappear again after so long, please make her part of the Freedom Fighters again.

  14. "After The Credits" - A New Archie Gimmick?

I think that be great help, very appreciated. Unless the uploaders are able to get both issues and place the alternate ending at the very back of the same issue.
  15. "After The Credits" - A New Archie Gimmick?

Kinda interesting but I mostly feel this is money grabbing honestly. Makes me more glad I stopped buying anyway since I can just read them here. The recent lawsuit has left me in utter despair, I'll only be buying the reprints to show Archie I AM in no support of the reboot, it's my opinion I hope you understand friends. I'm still reading the comic just not buying them anymore as I used to.

    3. Simon Arty

      Simon Arty

I know right? It's been a terrible past year for the comics. I think they're going to avoid Mobeius for a long time, since SEGA doesn't want any similar reference to Mobius itself, come to think of it, I haven't heard the term Mobians in the book for a long time. I don't think they can use it anymore either.

    4. NegaMetallix

      NegaMetallix

Nope, they can't. Come to think of it, I don't think Sonic's world even has a proper name anymore (at least, not one that's been mentioned recently). I still refer to it as the Prime Zone, personally.

  18. And the new Mobius erm I mean Sonic's world ends in flash. LOL, the finale was surprisingly good, but could have been more emotional.

  19. Ken Penders Topic...

I'm sorry, I appeared to misunderstood what you said. I don't hate it too, just .. heartbroken like you said. I think Ian is going to reveal what will happen to Shard, since he has a lot to fill us on all the characters who are involved in the King Naugus arc. Btw, if I may, I quoted someone who summed this mess up perfectly: "The stage has changed. Back in the old days of the book, it was like the old west. You had no idea what to expect and the world was full of potential. Now though, we are back to that point but there's not nearly as much left to imagination because the idea of Sonic and his world and friends is alot more well defined and they can't get away with as many oddities. Everything's gotta fit the current set. Worse yet for someone like me, I'm not especially fond of SEGA's modern interpretation of Sonic. Besides that, to everyone who was with the book before the purge, everything new is going to be compared to what came before. For me, this particular fictional universe lost alot of it's soul and no matter how much New you add, it's still going to miss the Old." 100% in agreement like seriously.
  20. Ken Penders Topic...

You have a point Locke, but like I said it will take me a long while to get over it, thanks man. I'm just not happy with the reboot as some people are, I hope you understand I have my opinion while you can have yours. No they didn't have it planned, Ian had never thought of it. I mentioned before Ian had stated many things had to be changed and he intended for issues 230 - 250 to be the Freedom Fighters Fall while issues 251 - 300 were to be the Freedom Fighters return and back in action. The current issues are somewhat like the original idea but now in a rebooted world, without the climax for many things like Naugus', Gefforey's, Hershey's, Mecha Sally's fate, etc.. They obviously did it because they lost a large sum of the cast and places, the rebooted world has no Penders-created material whatsoever. If you're all not aware Ian made a topic about his cancelled ideas for the original road to 300 which he will reveal before Summer. He will reveal the climax for the whole Naugus and Mecha Sally arc among many things. Here's the post: http://www.bumbleking.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=7231 They never intended for a reboot at all but for the story to continue as it was. Ian also revealed that "Endangered Species" was supposed to be a happy ending and Doctor Finitevus was to be a HUGE player on the road to issue 275. All these ideas sound so awesome and it makes so mad Penders ruined it.
  21. Ken Penders Topic...

What in the world, seriously?! Wanting to go after SEGA after 10 years without realizing his artwork is inside? This is more than enough proof how twisted this man is and how much attention he is yearning from the fan base since he lost his spotlight after leaving as head writer for the comics. And he just had to come in and screw everything up for Ian, poor guy had to rewrite his script up to 300 again because of his stupid claims. Am I the only one who is still soooo incredibly angry over this mess? Really hard to get over it, the reboot has been so boring for me so far, nothing special and the whole "countdown" isn't as exciting as I thought it would be, only the covers look awesome.

I know this is a sequel to the Shadow The Hedgehog game (obviously) but I actually wanted an adaptation of Shadow the Hedgehog itself in the comics, I wanted to see it fully adapted like the Adventure storyline, but in it's own unique direction with all of Mobius involved like the Xorda issue. But it ended up already happening because of the Genesis wave and we have someone in Black Doom's place that looks too similar to him. Yes, we haven't seen enough of the new characters, Ecli...

  23. Well, Penders won and the comics are screwed now. I don't see how anyone can be happy but as much as my opinion still stands I will still stay and read the book, knowing Ian has a lot for us. It has taken me a very long time to get over the mess but I will someday, though it will never be the same without the Penders characters, farewell and thanks for the enjoyable times dear ones.

      Simon Arty

I wish it were a joke, seriously, they are all obviously not coming back. Penders has stated repeatedly that his characters cannot be used unless the Mobius X Years Later storyline is the true future which Archie and SEGA are obviously not going to comply with after the 3 years of mess. Every story featuring his characters have to be reviewed by him, it's like going to two SEGAs to approve a story, Archie is not going to do that. It's also Archie's fault partly for them removing t...

  24. Sonic the Hedgehog (Comic Series)

So this new arc will be Sonic just chasing a train? How boring. Hopefully it will go beyond my expectations because the solicits always have wrong information, they need to come up with better plots. The SEGA variant covers have been terrible from the beginning, this is such a good example. The style for the main cover is kinda cool but it isn't as interesting as the pervious one, they should always make covers that get fans hyped up with good action and relates to the story of the arc. Better than Gerg Horn's bland covers though.
  25. What happened to Amy's Parents

That's exactly what I feel too, I don't mind it at all. I have this funny feeling Sally nor Amy will be getting their memories back because they have relatives who are Penders characters who they obviously cannot and should not remember, it will cause a lot of problems if they do. I think Sally will be more of a problem since she would want to know what has happened to her family since her roboticization. Funny thing is that Sonic remembers and he doesn't appear to care of what has become of his parents in this new world, weird to the max.
