New RP for New Players

I was planing the main plot would be the whole 'trying to get home' thingy. And due to everyone being on a ship, that might make side quests that 'split the party' in the long term difficult.

As for keeping it simple, yes Locke, I intend to. But it will need a little bit of structure. But while rotating GM might sound complicated, I think it would also be a good chance for people to practice.

Yeah. We can't just start without any rough idea of where things are going. And the rotating GM should be simple enough providing we set up some boundaries and such to prevent a free for all.

Knux has made the suggestion that we could combine the games into 1 (start of in comic universe then go into space) which also seems to be the option favored by Locke given his comments.

So, that is one option on the table. The other is the two games, which I will try to summarise below so less searching around is needed.

So questions then. Would people prefer the one combined game or the two separate games? And if the latter, if everyone happy with the basics of them? (If everyone prefers the former we can work out how it will go.)

Game 1: Comic continuation. We will take over from where the comics left of pre-crossover (though the g-wave may have shifted things about). People can take control of what plotlines and characters they wish (within reason), and no doubt more will emerge as they go on. While I don't want to ban OC's, given what this game is at least to being with they should probably be kept to a minimum.

Game 2: IN SPACE! An official space fleet ship is escort a freighter ferrying criminals (though criminals does not mean 'evil'). The criminals attempt to take over the freighter, but as they do so both ships are pulled into deep space, and everyone has to work together in order to survive and get back home (note, the freighter will prob be destroyed, leaving everyone aboard the one ship).

The journey home will be many lots of small little adventure stories ran by different players. This is an Alt Universe (obviously) so existing characters and Original Characters will be allowed, though keep the OC's within reasonable power limits.

Hmm...Well, combining them seems like a good idea for you personally. It solves the issue of worrying about two RPs for the price of one. My only concern with it is the fact that the switch from the continuation to the space RP will be a pretty drastic one. Though the fact that OCs are allowed certainly works for me either way. ^_^

If you can find a way to make that drastic switch, Skye, then by all means, make the two RPs do the fusion-dance. But otherwise, I recommend keeping them separate.

Could we possibly combine the two? Just like how Sonic Boom isn't tied to any of the modern Sonic stuff, we have all the characters from the comic, however the comic storyline never existed because everyone travels through space to begin with. We could keep rivalries like Eggman, Finitevus, the Legion, and all that. Except it's all been in space from the start, and we make up our own complete story from it.

We could have separate planets be areas rather than just one, so everyone originated from Mobius, which is the home planet, however Eggman and the Legion and Mammoth Moguls forces have all left to take over their own planets in the solar system that we could make. The storyline could then be that while everyone was in a massive battle, they drifted too far out into unexplored space and got sucked into a wormhole, spitting them out on the other end of the galaxy. That could then give the ability for people to also create their own characters and what not if they chose. The main plot would be for everyone to try and race to build a warp drive to get back to their solar system, either to protect it from evil, or to take over it all. This way we can have a long lasting RP with multiple side plots, as well as a main goal. In terms of the Freedom Fighters, Chaotix, and what not, because there's so many of them, we could make two galatic sized ships (or more if we want the secret freedom fighters and other groups to be involved) to act as HUBs for a temporary home while each person gets their own mini ship to control and fly around in space that could carry a small squad if they wish for multiple characters to tag along. Eggman and all the other villains with have a massive HUB ship as well, of course Eggman has plenty of experience with making unnecessarily large fleets, but for the others we could give them something.

I do understand though that this idea would mean we all (or the GM's) would have to basically create an entire solar system or two with new aliens and horizons, but I'm more than willing to help out with it and feel like it'd be a fun experience.

...So basically your plan is "Lost in Space: The Sonic RP Edition".

1 problem with that: You have to remember that the purpose of Option 2 is to continue where the Comic's original continuity left off. If we combine it, we have to at least finish all the plot lines that were made in that continuity, that were never completed, before we get into space. ...That's part of the reason why I said that going between one and the other is drastic.

Oh, I should have meant just combining the character roster with out own space adventure. In summary, I kin of don't want to follow off the comics story line anymore cause it's been changing in some really weird ways. I'd rather it be everyone is accustomed to space and have been doing it all their lives, than to suddenly through the technology in the mix and go off from the pre-cross over.

I'll be frank with you . I don't want to keep on with the comic story.

So, basically, you want Option 4 without Option 2. That's not combining option 2 and 4 together, that's adding a bigger roster to option 4.

Right, Skye, I personally recommend you split it to two RPs then.

I would also recommend keeping it split. It's clear everyone wants to do the space one and some are a little less into the idea of continuing with the pre-crossover. I can't really see how we can combine the two without satisfying everyone. But in the end, your the one who makes the decision. Though we should probably see what the Chosen One says too since this is technically meant for new players.

Hang on a second, reading back...

Who actually would play in the Option 2 (continue old comic continuity) game? Assuming both games were running.

As it stands right now, I wouldn't. If things on my end change, then maybe that decision will too, but until then, I'll have to pass.

I wouldn't. I'd rather it be a whole new story line. Villains can be the same, but nothing from the comic book past.

Just spoken to the Chosen One, and he's happy to just go for the Option 4 space story. So, that does make my job easier! ;)

Okay, if everyone is happy with the space game idea, we've had two suggestions for plot, one from me and one from Knux. While they are pretty similar, they do differ in focus. So which do people prefer? (Basically, one ship heading home, or practically everyone and fleets trying to head home)

IN SPACE!

Hmm... I like both ideas a lot, but I might give the edge to Knux's idea in this case

While I don't see much of a problem with Knuckles' plot, I'd prefer Skye's. This is for New RPers after all, so simplicity is probably the best course of action.

I'd probably still join Knux's idea though.

One thing that did just pop into my head, if we want to go with the rotating GM idea, that would be harder to do with Knux's idea, as players would be more spread out into smaller groups. It could still be done, just a bit more tricky.

I'd say go for Skye's, as like Jest says it is simpler. Knuckles' plan is perfectly fine, I just think it might be a bit too complex for a starter RP. But we'll see what Chosen One says, as I'd join either one.

That is true for starting Rpers. We don't necessarily have to all stick together, and the GMs could only just be Skye and the Chosen One (and me if you wish). My idea is just mainly for an overall goal, so if we do make every character come together at some points, that's what they focus on, and then they can separate again and go back on their own adventures. I feel like when I try to explain things, it isn't as clear as I see it in my head, so we can discuss it a little more to give a better understanding of the story.
