Matthew is a boy, and the only reason he wears that is that they couldn't pay for new clothes for any of the family members, and so they just had to pick up what was at hand.. and well... Matthew just got the last thing. (and thank you Sevy :3)

Elliot is the only one who doesn't talk (and is a panther, not a normal house cat) though he meows like one, and Josh would like to be floppy eared, hence why he tries to keep his ears down, Matthew just likes to chew and scratch everything, and Ann is a street artist.
