Rouge gave an inquisitive "hmm?" before turning to Shadow. "How's your day been?" she asked. "Terrible. I'll explain why later, but it's good to see you."

As if in cue, Rouge wandered into the lab, carrying a box.

"By all means try."

"She couldn't persuade me with a look."

"I'm glad no one holds such leverage over myself."

"Ah yes. And I imagine your 'mother' could rope my counterpart into at least considering it by invoking some favour from long ago."

Shadow raised his eyebrow. "Bribe? You don't seem to have the resources for that."

"But who knows? Perhaps you could persuade some."

"I doubt you'll get many people at all."

"You have my thanks."

"Well at least it was obvious."

"It's not everyone's idea of a good time. Myself especially for example."

"I doubt anyone could get her to."

Shadow grinned. "I can only imagine how absurd that must have been."

"How odd are we talking?"

"Oh? What was that like?"

"It's ok, I know it won't be ended so suddenly tongiht."

"Regardless, thank you again for the gift."

"It certainly was. You could have seen far more unpleasant things on that place."

"It's fine. I came to terms with what happened long ago. I just focus on the happy memories now."

Shadow gave a little smile. "Ah yes, I remember that. The Professor didn't like her interfering the early stages of my testing like that. It was designed to examine my natural problem solving skills." His smile faded. "Maria had the last piece to that puzzle, we never finished it."

"Maybe I should talk with her. What were Maria and I doing?"
