"No... unless you want to," said Stacey.   -------   Zoe giggled too.  "We should print these off."

Stacey tried to smile.   --------   Zoe giggled and took a couple of pictures.

"I... I'll try," said Stacey.   ----------   "Yes she is," grinned Zoe, holding up a camera.   ----------   Anna climbed on, giving Spark a little scratch behind the ears as she did so.

While your plot outline is not one that appeals to me (I've kinda been worn out by 'dark') the premise sounds really intriguing and you should go for it.   However, one stumbling block I can see.  If Tristan believes the Sonic's world is in his hands, why doesn't he push for a good ending, which would be easy enough to write, before he slides into darkness?  That would be the only flaw I can see.

"Great!  Thanks Spark!" grinned Anna, hugging him as he changed.   --------   "And I'm sorry I did," said Stacey.   ------------   "Yeah, we should," said Zoe putting Ziona on her bed, who automatically reached out, took one of the cuddly toys and held it to her.

"I won't put you through that again," said Skye.   --------   Zoe helped and opened the door to Ziona's room.  "Mom's got more cuddly toys than I do!"

"Could you shift into your wolf form... and give me a ride around the island?" asked Anna.     ----------   "I hope not," said Stacey hugging Sarah.   ----------   Zoe giggled.  "Yes she she.  She must be really sleepy.  C'mon, let's get her to her room."

"Yes... but I didn;'t want you to be hurt," said Stacey.   -----------   Zoe followed.  Ziona was still lying where she was left, curled up in her tail and sucking her thumb.   -----------   "But how about... rather than heading straight back..." Anna began

My personal theory was that to start off with they were just churning out a simple kiddies comic to make a profit and not really caring about the franchise.  Then as they were planning Issue 17 someone went 'Hey... what if we tried DOING something with this!'

"You don;t need to worry about that," said Skye.

F-f-fennnnn.... *nose twitches slightly*

"Yeah, we do," said Anna, tickling his chin.   ---------   "Yeah... I still need to work out where that curse came from," said Skye.

"Don't worry!  That won;t happen," said Skye

"But I could make it permanent," said Skye, trying to ignore the belch.   ---------   Stacey came slowly over to Sarah then sat down next to her.  "I'm sorry."   ---------   "We... better get back to Mom," said Zoe.

*stops twitching*

"For an hour," Skye reminded her.   --------   Stacey ran in after.   "I lost them", said Zoe sadly.

*hits bottom of cliff*  WHAMP *twitches* 

"Well, it your choice," said Skye.   --------   Stacey was able to keep up with Sarah, but Zoe fell behind

*catches chocolate while still falling* Fenn!

Skye petted Fenn.  "Maybe you should keep it that way Fenn."   ----------   "I think one of the Sarah's got scared," said Zoe running after.     "Sarah!  Stop!  Please!"  called Stacey

FEENNNNNNNN! *dives after*

"Sarah!  Come back!" called Stacey running after.   ---------   Anna leaned into Spark.  "I think you've got it well and safe."

Anna grinned then giggled.  "And are you taking care of it."   ------------   Stacey backed off a little intimidated. 

The early comics are pretty much just silly stories.  Issue 17, the second story, is where it starts getting serious and the storyline really starts, though it flip-flops from silly to serious until the mid-40's.  But a lot is introduced between 17 and 40 so skipping is hard to advise.
