"Apparently! It's amazing they can see through all that smoke!" said Melody. (You can jump back in if you want to Spark)

Issue 7 Story 1: Uncle Chuck’s Treasure I mentioned earlier in my reviews that, while the comic has a green Aesop, it’s in the background mostly. Here, its far more avert, as the Freedom Fighters search for treasure buried by Uncle Chuck in a former national park after finding a hidden map. Except, there’s not much left of said park. But even though the ‘pollution is bad’ subtext is brazen, its still nowhere near as ‘in your face’ as the anti-nuclear missile barrage back in Issue 3. Mostly it’s just pointing out how ‘location X used to be beautiful’ And even then the situation is used firstly to make the puns the early comics are fond of, followed by a fun chase sequence with Sonic using the terrain to his advantage. The only disadvantage is that the other characters are reduced to being mostly helpless dudes/damsels in distress. But while the Freedom Fighters are fine Robotnik escapes with the treasure, only to be disappointed in what ‘treasure’ actually means. Huh… I wonder if the story writers for Sonic Riders had read this story. Which does raise a question. Why would Uncle Chuck bury Sonic’s old baby boots, write a map, and then hide the map in knothole? Best I can come up with is that Chuck was planning to have it as some sentiment trip for Sonic when he had kids of his own. Story 2: Sorceress in Distress Odd to see a Halloween-esk story right after Christmas. Even odder is the fact Robotnik can’t recognises Sally, when the only difference is a witches cloak and a hat. Maybe the hat works the same way as Clark Kent’s glasses. Anyway, Robotnik spots the costumed Sally, mistakes her for a real witch and tries to marry her. And why is Sally on her own and easily kidnapped? Cause she arrogantly and angrily insisted on it. So much for the tactical leader of the Freedom Fighters. Okay, okay, being watched all the time can get pretty oppressive, but there was no need to be so forceful. But Sonic followed anyway and is able to pull Sally away before the vows. And apparently he can spin fast enough to turn inviable, I’m sure that will be really useful later on. Shame he’ll forget he can do it! And to top it off Sally whacks Sonic for disobeying orders. Right…. So getting married and the robotized by Robotnik would have been better? At least her insistence on going alone was understandable. Her reaction here…. Not so much! Overall: Silly but fun can sum up this issue, the first story being more fun and the latter more silly.

"I doubt... ah, there he is!"
-
"Maybe there's ghosts down here!" joked Stacey. ------------ "But.... don't let me push you Sarah," said Zoe. --------------- "Yeah, we haven't even met seen the main character yet!"
-
The door opened with a stiff creak. "This passage leads to the deepest area of Haven." -------------- "I do want to be friends Sarah."
-
"Yeap. Gimme a hand to open it!" said Stacey. ---------------- "It's okay Sarah. I didn't expect it to happen right away. It will take time," said Zoe
-
Stacey laughed. "This way, down this passage, and through that old rusty door." -------------- "You don't?" asked Zoe. ------------- "Those two didn't last long..." muttered Melody
-
"But for now we've got a lot to get through!" smiled Melody sitting back.
-
"Don't worry so much! After all, any secret passages we find won't be on a map!" said Stacey. ---------- "You don't think so?" asked Zoe ---------- "We'll need to go back one day and get the ones that came out after our visit!" Melody grinned
-
"But if we DO get lost we can just find a map then!" said Stacey. ------------ "It shows we CAN be friends," said Sarah
-
"Sound be enough time to watch all the movies!" laughed Melody
-
"How long till you need to go back to the boring old grind?" asked Melody.
-
"Yeah, not a bad life for a military complex!" grinned Melody.
-
"Uh... I have no idea... maybe it's somehow relevant to the plot," suggested Melody. "Heh, thanks Shadow. We're all set then!"
-
"Ah, they must have changed it a bit in later films!"
-
"Is the sound working properly?" asked Melody as the intro started with an odd sound effect rather than the usual music.
-
"Yeah!" Melody grinned, sitting down with her food.
-
"Sorry Hope, guess I didn't get the joke," said Melody
-
"You don't think so?" asked Melody
-
Melody giggled. "Maybe they'll get them smaller in time!"
-
"I'm just used to putting a disc in and pressing play. Funny how primitive it is!"
-
"Where's the fun in that?" grinned Stacey. --------- "Do you... understand what I'm saying?" Zoe asked. ----------- "Weird," commented Melody.
-
"Well, it's kinda fuzzy," confessed Stacey. "But we'll find the way." ------------ "Sarah?"
-
"I think I know the way," said Stacey. "More or less!" ---------- "Well, he did, and not only that but.... the fox and my older self... we... we ended up married," said Zoe. ------------ "Oh... okay..." Melody hit the rewind button.
-
"Huh? It doesn't just play from the start?" asked Melody surprised.
