"The trouble is, I'm not sure painkillers are the best idea here. They change how the brain works slightly, and as this ability is based IN the brain..." said Skye as he threw the suitcase on top of the bed and began unzipping it. Melody glanced at Hope, saddened that her attempt at a joked hadn't worked, then slumped down on a nearby chair.
-
"Well, it shouldn't be, I could be wrong," replied Skye as he knelt down next to the bed and pullout out a suit case from underneath it. "But generally if someone gains new abilities, I can take a while for the body to adapt." "So, uh, why don't I have headaches?" asked Melody. "That's also quite easy to explain, assuming things are similar here to how they are on Moebius. Humans tend not to have powers of any kind, except for the ability to use magic. Mobians on the other-hand, get all kinds. Therefore, Mobians are more adapted to having... weird powers. Hence no, or at least, less of a headache for you." explained Skye, taking a deep breath when he was done. "Well Hope, if only you were a Mobian you would be feeling fine," joked Melody, trying to get Hope to smile.
-
"Mine I guess. I've got one or two things that could be useful in there, and my journal. But I don't think those headaches are anything to worry about. It's just your brain isn't used to, well, thinking in that kinda way. If you spend several months just loafing on a couch, then tried to run a marathon, how would your legs feel?"
-
"Well, the two of you were acting rather odd the whole evening, I'm not surprised Dad noticed something." said Skye as they arrived back. "And you suddenly got a headache? Do you still have it?" "I... I didn't mean to Hope. I was just so worried that it was.... something worse than just a headache," pleased Melody
-
"I think Ziona, Glen and those newcomers are there, but we can just lock ourselves in one of the rooms," said Skye as he began walking out. He paused as he passed Anna. "This was a great meal! I'll catch you back at the hotel Sis!" he said to Anna. Anna nodded, and smiled, not noticing what was up with the two girls. "So, what's just happened? Why this sudden change of secrecy?" he asked Hope. ------------ "Really? You can do that an no one cared?" asked Ziona, a little shocked.
-
"Thank's angel," Skye replied to Tikal, giving her a quick kiss on the forehead as he stood up. "You told Dad?" Skye asked Melody a bit surprised. She nodded her head while looking downwards. "Ok, where do you want to talk about this? A small quiet table here? The hotel? Back at Haven? Heck, Shadow could take us to GUN as he knows," whispered Skye to both of them. --------------- "If you can sense people in different Zones or times, that is way beyond the limits of normal telepathy," replied Ziona.
-
"They're coming?" asked Ziona. "You mean you can sense them coming back? That's beyond telepathy there."
-
Skye blinked several times... "Come again? Uh, right. What do you mean by circumstances? And should we maybe discuss this on the move?" whispered back Skye. He glanced at Tikal. "Hey, well done at managing! I was sure you wouldn't. Er, I've, uh, gotta talk to Melody and Hope about some stuff. You, uh, don't mind do you?" --------------- "The people? Not so nice?" asked Ziona as she began eating her cheesecake.
-
Melody followed meekly behind Hope. "Oh, Hi Hope," said Skye looking up. "Are you..." his words trailed off when he saw the anger on Hope's face and the tears on Melody's. "I was right. You two did have a falling out," he said.
-
Melody nodded, still upset at Hope's cold tone. "I think he's just finished his meal now," she said, looking along the table.
-
Melody tried to smile. "Yeah, I guess. But it still is somewhat... practical!"
-
"If you... if you worked together maybe you could come up with a solution quicker. I mean, your great with the normal science. But Skye deals with the weird science," said Melody. ------------- "That's be lovely, thanks," replied Ziona. "So what is the place your from like?"
-
Melody chocked back another sob at Hope's tense replied. "Hope.. I... I'm sorry... I just.. I panicked. I though you were... But Dad promised to leave you alone... But he did suggest... We talk to Skye. Maybe that's a good idea. He's dealt with crazy stuff before. He could help find a way to stop your headache?" Melody said, her lower lip quivering. ----------- "Why, thank you," replied Ziona, basking in the compliment.
-
Melody nodded in Locke arms. "Yes Dad. I'll do that," she replied, then slowly walked over to where Hope was. "H-hope?" she asked, sounding even more shy and nervous than Anna. -------------- "Sure thing," replied Ziona, managing to smile again.
-
When Melody 'heard' Hope's whispered outburst, she couldn't stop herself crying anymore, and sank to her knees. "I'm sorry Hope. I'm so sorry. I didn't know what to do..." she sobbed, both aloud and in her head. -------------- Ziona was about to snap back at Berry's comment, but stopped herself. Instead she simply muttered 'Maybe'.
-
Melody nodded, trying to choked back her sobs. "We... we don't want to spoil Anna's night. But Hope and I... we... were actually weren't being quiet tonight. We don't know how it happened, but somehow... we can hear each others thoughts..." Melody confessed. ------------------ "You have no idea," murmured Ziona
-
Realizing that Hope wasn't faking, Melody started tearing up, wringing her hands together. "I'm so sorry Hope," she called after her friend. She turned back to Locke. "Dad... I'm sorry, I should'a told you sooner. Butbutbut.... I was scared you wouldn't let me do anything fun with Hope ever again... But now that's Hope's hurt...."
-
Melody desperately fought the urge to wring her hands together. 'We...we have to tell him something Hope... I can't stand lying to my Dad. If we tell him about the link, that'd explain everything without the need form trouble!' she thought.
-
'I'd be fine as long as I didn't get caught,' thought Melody. 'But it would be safer if I didn't do a pretend headache as well.' "Are... Are you sure you're alright Hope?" asked Melody.
-
"Y-yes, that was all.." said Melody. (ooc: Why did I make Melody a bad lier...)
-
"We also went in to show something I taught Hope." 'You don't mind me bringing up your magic do you? It's a better out than the alcohol or mind reading one.' asked Melody
-
"No... What makes you say that Dad?" asked Melody 'HE KNOWS! HOW COULD HE KNOW!' Melody screamed in her head.
-
'Should we tell him, or should we make something up?' thought Melody. "You mean I'm not full of life? I thought I was!" she said aloud.
-
"What? No, nothing bad has happened at all Dad! Why would being calm be bad?" asked Melody
-
"Yeah, sure Dad," said Melody. 'He doesn't know about the mind thing does he?' thought Melody worriedly. 'Or worse... the milkshakes?'
