You've pretty well summed up the reboot, and the reason many people don't like the reboot. About 10 years of comic story being wiped away in a single stroke. As for the fan-base being negative about the comic (and everything else) in general... well... that's just kinda the Sonic fanbase. And the negative guys tend to be the loudest.

I was planing the main plot would be the whole 'trying to get home' thingy. And due to everyone being on a ship, that might make side quests that 'split the party' in the long term difficult. As for keeping it simple, yes Locke, I intend to. But it will need a little bit of structure. But while rotating GM might sound complicated, I think it would also be a good chance for people to practice.
