  1. *Sees the writers for 'Sonic Boom: Fire and Ice'* ...Dammit!

      Who is it then?

Ken Pontac and Warren Graff. They've been writing Sonic stories for the last five years (since Colours) but I find their quality falling with each game.

oooh okay.. Well I understand your concern about the game.. but... they might have changed their style of writing?

  2. Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice (3ds)

Recently, there was a Sonic Boom podcast featuring an interview with Matt Kraemer of Sanzaru Games, the lead level designer for this game.   ...And one of the details revealed was that Pontac and Graff are returning to write this game's story...
  3. So, uh... anyone catch that news about Sticks likely being a playable character in the game?     (This was from the 'new' E3 trailer, which is basically the same as the first trailer with minor changes.)
  4. Sonic & Mega Man: WORLDS UNITE?!

Straying away from the saddening news about Mega Man's hiatus after issue #55, here's my summary and review for his big 50th:     Phew, that was a lot to cover! But I must say that this issue was brilliant. Seeing the two factions of heroes interact, if only briefly, was great to see, and I'm still surprised that we have THREE Sonic Boom characters tagging along for this ride. (Should make for some interesting conversations down the road...) Kind of odd to see the Government Building in the air, but I suppose they needed some excuse for it to merge with the G.U.N. Helicarrier. Still pretty dumb, though. And I thoroughly enjoyed the bonus story. It was good to see that they took advantage of the crossover to still have a Mega Man-centric celebration story with not one, but TWO incarnations of the Blue Bomber, and not a single Sonic character in sight or even mentioned. Overall, I thought this was a wonderful milestone issue.
  5. Mega Man (Comic Series)

And now it's time for the next set of previews! Here are the covers and solicitation for Issue #53 ('Blue Shift') and... wait... WHAT?!       ...Yep, you did read that last part right. Not only is Sonic Boom due to end right after the crossover (though it will return through the other Sonic books), but now the Mega Man series is going to (temporarily) end after issue #55! And although Archie have clarified on Twitter that this'll just be a temporary hiatus (yes, really) I'm incredibly upset to hear this. So we're literally just gonna be stuck with the main Sonic book and Sonic Universe by the end of this year. How utterly disappointing...
  6. Is it just me, or was anyone else disappointed with Nintendo's E3 Digital Event earlier today?

    1. Shadow

      Shadow

Not only that, but Square Enix too! They only had Kingdom Hearts 3 and Star Ocean, the rest was either already shown or just talking, talking and more talking >.< And Nintendo barely showed anything new and if there was something new, it didn't look too interesting *cough* Metroid Prime Federation *cough*

I was as well. Star Fox looks awesome, sure, but everything else felt underwhelming to the core. Not even a mention of Pokémon for crying out loud!

The only game that we didn't know about and legittimally (sorry, messed that up) caught my intrest was the Paper Mario x Mario and Luigi game. That one is looking to be good, and both franchises do excellent jobs on their respective games.

  7. Ugh. I hate the EA Sports part of the conference...

  8. For anyone interested in E3, Microsoft's Press Conference begins any second now.

  9. Oh man, I can't decide which Mega Man character I want my Mii to be in Smash, now.

  10. Sonic & Mega Man: WORLDS UNITE?!

If it's anything like that Battle Book preview of Dr. Light's Robot Masters fighting Sonic Man, then no thanks! I really don't like that art-style.
  11. Well, how about that. Not one, not two, but THREE new fighters coming to Smash Bros. right now! Plus the extra stages AND Mii costumes! That's insane!

I'm still more upset about Roy getting in, personally. I mean, we now have TWO slightly different versions of Marth in one game. (Granted, Roy's at least a bit more different compared to Lucina, but still...)

As for Lloyd, I guess we'll just have to see how the Smash Ballot goes later on.

    2. Shadow

      Shadow

I can see what you mean about Roy. The only advantage he has is that he plays well, but it's undeniable that he and Marth are similar to each other in multiple ways. Even their Final Smash, albeit a different animation.

Ah yes, the Smash Ballot. Fortunately they're going to look at each submission individually and then decide instead of going for most votes, otherwise Lloyd would stand no chance. Then we might get characters like Shrek and Goku... *shudders*

    3. NegaMetallix

      NegaMetallix

Yeah, I doubt Sakurai would EVER take those seriously. Though on second inspection, I suppose Roy does have more differences now than he did in Melee, which is good. I might give him a try. But with all those Mii costumes... Gah! Too many choices!

  12. Sonic & Mega Man: WORLDS UNITE?!

Thing is, Dan Schoening technically did all four issues of Act 1, but he only did the breakdowns in Parts 2 & 3, while Tracy Yardley finished them. Yes, it's not as consistent with the last crossover (even then, the final few pages of Act 1 there had to be done by someone else) but I don't mind it. Plus, artists constantly switch every arc or two anyway. I don't really see the major problem with this. Some artists are great, some are... less than great, but it's not really that inconsistent.
  13. Sonic Universe (Comic Series)

Yep. He actually first appeared in the Genesis Portal Origin Story (Free Comic Book Day this year) and was the one who told Silver what caused the Genesis Portals to appear in the first place. (Basically, they're 'cracks' in space-time caused by Super Sonic's failed Chaos Control in 'Worlds Collide', hence why they lead to other worlds.)
  14. Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice (3ds)

Wait, nobody posted the initial reveal trailer yet? Guess I'd better do it, then: As the trailer shows, this'll play pretty much like 'Shattered Crystal', but with the elemental gimmicks and Amy.
  15. Sonic the Hedgehog (Comic Series)

So this is the new Lupe? Looks nice, but I can't wait to see this new Super-Badnik. And it's good to see that the Freedom Fighters are still aiming to get the last Emerald.
  16. Sonic Universe (Comic Series)

It's that time once more! Here are the covers and solicitation for Sonic Universe #80, Part 2 of 'The Silver Age':       Aw, wittle baby Virtual Hedgehogs. They look so cute and... wait, are they attacking Silver? And hey, Von Schlemmer returns in this issue. Seems interesting overall.
  17. Sonic & Mega Man: WORLDS UNITE?!

I believe that was due to Eggman removing the personalities from the original Roboticized Masters. ("You get less sass from your minions that way.") Whereas we don't know the exact changes that Eggman and Wily made to Mega Man and Sonic. I presume they just kept the personalities for the sake of it. (That, or Sigma told them to.)
  18. Sonic & Mega Man: WORLDS UNITE?!

Well, seeing as Archie's Twitter account recently posted a small preview of 'Mega Man: Worlds Unite Battles', I'd say that one's coming pretty soon. Dunno about Sonic's, though. And to answer you point, Skye... well, maybe Tracy Yardley forgot to add visible damage. I dunno, but they're definately OP here for a reason.
  19. Sonic & Mega Man: WORLDS UNITE?!

I never really saw it as 'taking no damage' myself, but more like 'taking little/no VISIBLE damage'. Again, these are the same two blue heroes who, time and time again have managed to defeat their enemies, and now their enemies are using them against the good guys. Also, one other thing to remember: although it was only mentioned briefly in Part 2, Eggman and Wily used Sigma's technology (as in, Earth 21XX, Reploid-level tech) to transform them. Hence why they're so much more advanced and powerful compared to the last batch of Roboticized Masters, which only used 20XX, Robot Master-level tech to create them. So with that, plus them just being the big heroes anyway, I can understand why it took two other 'heroes' with almost-equal strength (Break Man and Gemerl) to slow them down. But in the end, there's only one opponent strong enough to beat them: Each other. Hence why Eggman and Wily implanted their 'secondary objective' into the heroes to begin with.
  20. Sonic & Mega Man: WORLDS UNITE?!

I'd mostly chalk that up to something like "they can't let the main heroes lose to side characters, even while they're corrupted". A bit dumb, but understandable.
  21. Sonic & Mega Man: WORLDS UNITE?!

And I'm back, for recaps on Parts 2 AND 3 of the crossover.   First, let's begin with Part 2 (Sonic Boom #8): I'll just say this now: I am SO HAPPY that Gemerl's finally getting some love. I've always been interested in how they could build upon what he did in 'Sonic Advance 3' (and 'Sonic Battle', if you count Emerl too) and I'm not disappointed. And people comparing him to Shard... eh, they don't seem THAT similar to me. Maybe it's just the black-and-gold/yellow paint scheme that does it, I dunno. Anyway, I thought this was a very enjoyable issue, and I'm looking forward to Act 1's conclusion.
  22. Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice (3ds)

When I first heard this, I was honestly kinda surprised. Granted, 'Shattered Crystal' was the far better of the two original games (don't ever get me started on 'Rise of Lyric') but both games sold terribly (literally the worst-selling Sonic games ever) so the fact that it's getting a sequel seems odd. I'd imagine that this game, along with the new 'Mario and Sonic', will be a kind of 'placeholder' to buy some time until the next big game for Sonic's big 25th is ready. Still, if there's one thing I hope they've changed for 'Fire and Ice', it's different writers. Please, no more Pontac and Graff...
  23. Mega Man (Comic Series)

In fairness, we don't exactly 'know' why he chose to stay active. One guess is that he's biding time for the Stardroids (his original masters, from 'Mega Man V') and might betray Mega Man then, but they never say that in the issue. Actually thinking about it more, what would Shadow Man be doing right now anyway? We know that the Robot Masters who didn't want to find a job had to be shut down by government law, yet Shadow Man stayed. So what kind of job/purpose would he have?
  24. Sonic & Mega Man: WORLDS UNITE?!

I highly doubt that. They wouldn't bring him in if he's just gonna be destroyed so soon after. That's wasting character space. Maybe he'll tag along with the heroes, maybe he'll stay behind to protect Mobotropolis. Wait and see.
  25. Sonic Boom (Comic Series)

It makes sense. The only difference to the original Worlds Collide now is that it started after this continuity's version of Generations. And in this supposedly 'new' version of WC, Super Sonic is still interrupted by Eggman, the world still shatters, and the multiverse still recreates itself. Again, the old world is old news. The basic idea is to forget it ever happened in the old world. Anyway, I enjoyed the issue. I'll post my full thoughts in the Worlds Unite thread.
