Yet that's paradoxical considering Matt Groening always complained about lawyers being everywhere, when you see the results of Archie having lax lawyers.
  2. Ken Penders Topic...

You got it backwards, Bongo's lawyers didn't persecute fans. That's my fault actually, I wasn't clear enough. What I meant is that they wouldn't allow Bongo Comics to publish fan arts in the comics unless they were given full rights by the persons who made them. It's the opposite of Youtube.

The thing I liked least is Mick McMahon's design. The drawing themselves aren't bad, but he barely changes character's facial expressions. Anyway, let's not go too far away from topic. Back to Penders. No matter what we think or say, the fact is that Archie never made him sign any document saying his work could become their property, so his creations were always his, which also means that any revenue from reprints and use of his characters after his departure without his consent was illegal. The real people to blame are Archie's careless and stupid lawyers from the time. Want an example of good lawyers ? The ones at Bongo Comics. They wouldn't allow them to publish Simpsons fan arts unless the persons who made them state that they become Bongo's property.

Homage is a one time thing, what I'm showing are litteraly parts of the main plot and going for multiple issues. I know for sure since I read the whole comic. And I'm not pointing at the BBC for the cancellation, what I meant is that Sega probably put an end to it because it took too many "inspiration" from other works and wasn't original enough. I mean come on, that story with Metal Sonic and time travel to prevent one of Robotnik's machines to take over Miracle Planet was litteraly called "The Sonic Terminator." And don't make me start on the Marxio Brothers. Shortfuse is litteraly an "Iron-Squirrel". A giant ancient alien ring to travel to other worlds. Look, I like this comic, but those are all plot elements, you can't call them mere references. Of course there are some stuff like that in the Archie comic, but those were mostly easter eggs or one time stores that were just alternate universes.

While not related to Penders himself, this post talks about what he's complaining about since years, so I guess it's the right place for it, as this discussion is also about legal issues and stolen content and design. I put it in spoilers, it's kinda big due to links been changed into inserted media.
  6. Comixology is so great, I can legally get any issue I want in France now. But I will still download from the website to continue my personal chronological edit.

Of course we already had the Archie app, but I also want to read them on my computer.

  7. Sonic the Hedgehog (Comic Series)

Well, since both series were delayed, the website is one comic ahead for each of them thanks to the accidental temporary digital release.
  8. Comic release dates

It's a game that was supposed to be released mid-February, the true successor to Mega Man, but it got delayed for stupid reasons, like bugs in online mode, so they delayed the whole game even though it could easily be released as a temporary singleplayer only.
  9. Comic release dates

And yet, sadly, I have a feeling that it's not the last delay.
  10. The last tiny hope to see Half-Life return was killed by a movie. Someone made a movie called Half-Life that has nothing to do with Half-Life. Despite the plans of an official one, this just proved that Valve doesn't care anymore, since they didn't do anything about it and just let it happen. It's over. T_T

...And? There are tons of movies that share names with video games, yet have nothing in common. This doesn't affect games at all.

The problem is J.J. Abrams was supposed to make the official Half-Life movie. Him and Gabe Newell revealed this a while ago. So why would they let this happen if they really care about it ? I tell you, Valve now cares about Half-Life as much as SEGA cares about Sonic. To the point they even allow awful mods being sold.

  11. I was thinking. Since there is that desert image of the deleted Sonic CD Zone, doesn't that mean the Dust Hill Zone mock up was actually for Sonic CD and not Sonic 2 ?

    1. JacobMaltiseChaisel

      JacobMaltiseChaisel

Yes and no. The image that was in the 2011 remake was actually from a version of that zone that would have been implemented into CD, but it originally was intended for Sonic 2. It's hard to say what game it was truly intended for however because of the fact that Sonic CD and Sonic 2 were both in development at roughly the same time, hence why Sonic CD has a rougher version of the spin dash.

  12. Are the release dates on Mobius Encyclopedia still reliable ? They say Sonic Universe 82 was released three days ago.

The digital version came out very briefly back in November/December (long enough for someone to upload it here), but was removed and rescheduled for this month. Same with Sonic #279.

Either way, things should be getting back on track for Archie's releases. I'm pretty sure that Eggman’s Dozen should begin by the end of this month.

  13. Ken Penders Topic...

Sorry about that, it's quite hard to edit out previous quotes on an iPad. Teamrandom21, no, Penders doesn't want to transfer his "rights", he wants all fame for himself because he still can't accept the fact that he had his time. Instead of doing new stuff that would get him all this money he wants, he just holds to the comic like a parasite to get paid for his past work. Unless your selling your own work, that's either unemloyment or retirement, and none of them are paid by your former employer. Edit: Just great. For him, the throwbacks to the original trilogy in The Force Awakens are just theft. And that's coming from the guy who stole copyrights.
  14. Ken Penders Topic...

A freelance without a contract, in case you forgot. Only a contract or a direct agreement with Sega could legaly grant him such copyrighs on their content, and his replies to my questions proved he has none. That Darn douche made us lose the old Archieverse with forged copyright, and he had the help of the Darn (in)justice. And now, he's acting nice to fool us. But his weakness is that he confesses too much to people who end up trusting him.

Here it is. https://twitter.com/KenPenders/status/677003083751301120 https://twitter.com/KenPenders/status/677003401868218370 And he's doing it again, saying the comic exists thanks to him, despite the fact that Michael Gallagher is the real first writer. I also already asked him about his copyrights being legal. Here's his reply. He wasn't even surprised by my question. He knew it all along, and is even proud of it because he feels secure. What a... I couldn't continue this post without being insulting.
  17. Ken Penders Topic...

Oh, hell no. Penders is doing it again about that he should get money just from appearance of his characters. I agreed with him on the money from reprints and his approval for use of his characters, but that ? He couldn't stay nice all the way, "Nek Srednep" has taken over once again. Bye Ken, it was nice to see you back for a time. Edit: Guys, I think I put my finger on something big. Penders said he never signed any contract with Archie. That means he was never officially affiliated with them. And that also means he was never affiliated with the licence fee. Logically, shouldn't this make his copyrights of stories containing Sega content illegal ?
  18. Off-Topic Thread

If you think Penders made his characters look like abominations, then brace yourselves.
  19. Archie may be selling the rights

Don't take all Penders say as facts. I just asked him what he thought of the other strange things that happens at Archie that have nothing to do with him, like the sudden stop of the Mega Man comic. He only speculated this, maybe from his own experience with companies. Since Archie just keeps being silent about this, it's obvious there's something else than the former writers case going wrong. And he didn't say selling the rights, but the company itself. If that's the case, we can at least hope the next owner wouldn't also do stupid things that would cause them to have legal problems.
  20. Ken Penders Topic...

People say Penders is choosing money over the fans, but who originally chose their pride over the fans by filing a lawsuit against him ? Do I have to remind you that he didn't even ask money for the use of his characters ? All he wanted was Archie to use them under his mandates. And I honestly would have preferred his mandates over Sega's awful current ones. And I would like Archie to tell us once and for all why the Mega Man comic is put on hiatus (which in industry language means definitely over). I would guess it's again about some legal stuff ? Something's definitely not right at Archie Comics, and we must know what.
  21. Ken Penders Topic...

And to say all this started because Archie used his characters without his permission. It can be hard to admit it, but he always owned them, since he was a freelance under contract with Archie Comics. When you're a freelance, you own everything you create until you sell your rights for it. Just like Jeremy Clarkson owned Top Gear until he sold his rights to the BBC in 2012. And since Ken never sold his rights to Archie, they were indeed doing copyright infringement. And that proves that not paying him for the reprints is illegal. Yet, Ken revealed that Archie's Lawyers have the nerves to say there is no agreement. Incredible.
  22. Ken Penders Topic...

Not a mess with Penders, but Archie. Penders thinks some people at Archie won't be happy with LHT, and I assume that's because Ian mentioned in the first chapter the events that caused his plans to change. If you look back at it, you remember that once Sega stepped into the lawsuit, everyone had to close their mouth. And since Ian is still working for Archie, perhaps Penders thinks that could also cause some trouble between Archie and Sega, but that's just speculation.
  23. Ken Penders Topic...

Try to keep up just once please. T_T He never said he was going to sue Ian. I already explained that there could be another lawsuit because he doesn't get the money he should earn on reprints. He said that if they don't answer his demand, this could end in a lawsuit. How things will turn out depends entirely on Archie response. If it turns bad for their deal with Sega, they will be the ones to blame, since they apparently decided to play the illegal card.
  24. Ken Penders Topic...

Apparently, Archie doesn't pay him the money he should earn from those new reprints. If this was indeed part of his contract, I fully agree with him this time. Legally, he still have his part of the rights on those stories if he doesn't abandon them. Either they pay him, or they buy his part of the rights, but they can't just decide to stop like that. Archie is a company like any other, they're far from being angels.
  25. Sonic the Hedgehog (Comic Series)

Yeah, I got fooled by the release date on some websites. I think I got it. Its the one week break we get every two months. And since Sonic Boom ended, there is another week break.
