Fan Characters (Wanna see what ya made!)
ChaosKaiser replied to HomestarRunner's topic in Artist's Canvas
Of course they aren't bad... THEY'RE HORRIBLE! (Sarcasm) Of course not, they're pretty cool, and they fit on the idea of truly ORIGINAL I was exposing. What I mean is that with nine characters, you're adding a lot to the universe, and it's a pity they don't interact with each other because of being in different realities. If you are interested in manga, you should try drawing humans too! I bet you'll do it great This one, for example, is more like a chibi manga character (and it's sooooo cute >w<) (Mod note: Try not to double post) -

Well, I discovered Sonic when I was 8 years old. Now I'm 19 and haven't even think that way about the Sonic universe. But I get it. It's basically that stupid thought of "the grittier and edgier, the more mature and adult" all over again, right?. Jeez... Disney movies take on some mature themes but don't get edgy or violent, for example. -
Fan Characters (Wanna see what ya made!)

Wait... Original Characters that truly deserve to be called ORIGINAL? THIS IS MADNESS! @Shiromi-chan I guess you could make a completely new Sonic universe, putting together all your OCs I have just a pair of Fan-characters, and I'm still remaking them so that they can fully fit in the cannon with no changes (which is surprisingly easier and more fun than you might think!). Also, I took some cannonical characters I drawn loooong ago and look nothing like the real ones, and tried to remake them so as they look like new ones. That's pretty fun too. -

Now you've mentioned the fan-characters, does anyone know why are there so many over-the-top gritty and emo Shadow rip-offs? I have always seen the Sonic franchise as a superhero/manga-ish story with cartoony/cute? characters and some deep mythos, but never as a dark, depressing and gory remake of Dragon Ball with animals (though I fully understand the comparisons between Sonic and Dragon Ball. There are too many common elements to ignore) -
Only one issue to pick? Jeez, that's hard... Besides, I'm not quite sure which one might be "the worst" for me.

Sonic Forces (Xbox One, PS4, PC & Nintendo Switch)
ChaosKaiser replied to NegaMetallix's topic in Multiverses of Sonic the Hedgehog
Boom Sonic doesn't seem to have a bad future. Actually, it looks like in the Boom universe there's even more natural enviroments and less machines or technology. ...asuming we're talking about a CD-like Bad Future, which usually involves dark robots and machines taking over the world. -

I thought Sega didn't care much, not that they were directly unhappy. Do you know why is that? -

So, we'll definately never get to see the Freedom Fighters in any videogame? Well, dreaming's free... Boom Sonic then *sigh*. Gotta be honest, not the best option IMO -

Crazy idea ahead... I have read in other places about this, but, what if that "resistance" makes reference to some kind of Freedom Fighters? What if, not only Classic and Modern Sonic fight along, but also "Comic Sonic"? Could this be a giant crossover thingy? If not, the most plausible option would be Boom Sonic. They have said that there will be a new character in this game, so... -
Yes, I do know how Chaos Control works. But thanks for the time spent writing that long explanation. And that's exactly what I wanted to say, but I didn't know how to say it. Language limitations. I'm not the best English speaker... Besides, who cares about time paradoxes, huh?

I have commented in the News section, but still, I'll say it here, once again: Where I live there's no way of getting Sonic comics. Neither Archie, nor Fleetway. When I was a child I dreamed of reading these comics (and someday even drawing them, but that's another story...) and thanks to you, I finally could do so. As silly and cheesy this might sound, you made me fulfill one of my childhood's dreams: to read Archie's Sonic the Hedgehog comic series. I enjoyed every single visit, every read, I waited every month patiently to the uploads, even though I had never wrote a comment until today. For this, all I want to do is express my grattitude. Thank you for all this years of effort and risk, thanks to the admins, the moderators, the scanners... You made this naive Spaniard really happy. And for that, I'll stick to this friggin' awesome site as long as I can. Thank you so much.

19. But I can use Chaos Control, reverse time when I was a baby, then, I SHALL BE VICTORIOUS! Or... I... I was victorious... ugh... darn time-space stuff

ChaosKaiser replied to teamrandom21's topic in Multiverses of Sonic the Hedgehog
@Skye Prower That's what I'm talking about. We aren't monsters or creeps. We just like games, shows or comics about colorful animals with superpowers wearing gloves and shoes. Said like that doesn't sound bad at all. @tiny260 So, we are overlooked, while the lastest (and creepiest) ShadowXShrek fan-art is what people keeps in their minds. I know how this works, but I feel like our image hasn't changed over the years, like there are only cringy (I don't like that word) fans. Do we even exist? -
I couldn't agree more with that statement, my friend.

I think you have already said most of what I don't like about the most twisted part of our fandom: the excessive (and agressive) shipping comunities, the (not)Original Characters, the Mary-Sue Characters, the nitpicking with the games... So I'll say something different. Aside from all of that, I don't like the image that the Sonic Fan has on the internet (and sometimes out of it). Most of the fans are not weirdos, or nitpicking, or non-creative. I love drawing and writing, and when I make Sonic stuff, I don't go insane or anything. Yes, I have a few fan-characters, but they are neither re-colors nor Mary-Sues. I love the games, I even enjoyed Shadow The Hedgehog (don't kill me, plz). I enjoy most of the media the Blue Blur appears in (excluding Sonic Boom). Yet, despite all of this, I have faced situations where people wondered if I was okay being a Sonic fan and if I met someone crazy. What have we done wrong, people? -
Well, existance-erased people is sure a dark thing to tell a story about! The problem is they can't talk about some of those dissapeared characters. But still, there are some deep moments in the new comics... So yeah, there's a nice balance between comedy and drama. What I was refering to with that "darkness" is that some characters might receive more serious stories than others. Like Team Dark (no pun intended)
-
Well, they were not technically "murdered", but instead erased from existance... or something like that?. I don't know what's worse...

Thanks for the info about her powers, I wasn't sure where they came from. So, basically, both girls are totally under the control of their "puddins", but that's where the similarities end. Gotta say that recently, Harley Quinn is developing her own character aside from the Joker, (probably due to her increasing popularity), whereas Thunderbolt might find it hard to develop herself without Eggman's influence, as I see. But who knows...
-
I don't follow the Fleetway comics, but I've read some of them, and yeah, they take on darker stuff... sometimes TOO dark. And yeah, I get the 4-chapter idea. It's great if you want to just read an auto-conclusive story that focuses on secondary characters. But I sometimes felt that they could extend some arcs for 6 episodes, for example.

I really like this new take on the comics. I am into superhero comics too, and I felt this Genesis Wave was some kind of "Flashpoint-like" thing in order to reboot the series, so I am okay with that. Also, I love that they aproached the games more, as well as including cameos and references from the whole videogame universe. BTW, the most recent artists are great, from Yardley on: Ben Bates, Evan Stanley, Diane Skelly, Jennifer Hernandez... and a lot more. The artwork is more Sonic-like thanks to this people. If I had to say something bad about it was that due to the reboot some storylines never got finished, and they were darker than this new way they've taken, and some story arcs ended too quickly and felt a little rush (specially in Sonic Universe). I always felt that Sonic comics could be a little darker and more serious. Not reaching violent or too dramatic themes, but just taking some events more seriously.

I see a significant difference between these two cases. Harley has (almost) no physical superiority over the Joker. Thunderbolt, unlike Eggman, has a natural? superpower, that lightning thingy (though I'm not sure if it's truly natural or if that "tiara" she wears is what gives her powers), so, in a way, she has some kind of advantage in the case of a conflict with Robotnik. Sure, she's her "sidekick", but a really dangerous one... Other than that, yeah, their relationships are quite similar, but the backstory of the Doctor and the Chinchilla sure is completely different from the Clown and her jester...
