Sonic in the Super Smash Bros WiiU/3DS
Th3AntiGuardian replied to Ryo_Inazuma's topic in Multiverses of Sonic the Hedgehog
?????? So, how do you guys gauge how much personality a character has? Really, you guys only listed characters who could talk. I'll just assume none of you have played Kid Icarus Uprising, as Pit has more dialogue than any other Nintendo character (and Sonic for that matter). Really, I would consider someone like Kirby having more of a personality than Fox; he just shows it through actions and not words, similar to Sonic before Adventure was released. Even Luigi, especially in Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, had quite a bit of personality through expressions and actions. DK is another example of a character who has developed more personality through the years, and expresses it through his physical appearance even. Mario and Link are examples of characters who the player can actually put themselves in place of, if that makes sense. Part of their character through the years has been their silence and the fact that they simply do what is right and defeat evil. Mario's overall appearence and drive is what gives him personality, in place of dialogue, it's simply not needed. Plus, characters like Bowser, Luigi and even the Toad Brigade provide the personality for a game like Galaxy. Even with Link, Nintendo has expanded on his character; in Skyward Sword, the player chose Link's responses during some dialogue sequences, and the way that character reacted to Link was dependent on the player's choice. It didn't affect Link's personality throughout the game like Sonic in Sonic Chronicles, but again, nothing more was needed in a Zelda game. For these characters, there's a certain appeal to them just being the type of character they've been for years. So if you think about it, Nintendo just has a good variety between their characters; ranging from Mario and Link who are just heroes that the player can put themselves in place of, all the way to Pit who is constantly talking and is in a universe filled with colorful protagonists and antagonists with tons of dialogue. It's just an opinion, but Nintendo just has it right IMO. And unfortunately games like F-zero and Star Fox havent seen new installments due to mere circumstance. If memory serves me right, Metroid and Kirby went through a dry spell a while back. There were no Metroid games on the N64, and outside of Kirby Air Ride, Kirby saw a large gap between Crystal Shards and the next proper console game, Epic Yarn (if you don't count that, then not until Return to Dreamland). It took 10 years for Nintendo to make a sequel to Luigi's Mansion, regardless of how many fans wanted a new installment. Nintendo has so many series that are hugely popular, we just have to be patient as they seem to cycle. F-Zero saw 2 installments on GBA, and 2 console games between X on N64 and GX on GameCube (plus the arcade F-Zero). For Fox, there was the awesome 64 for obviously the N64, Adventure and Assault on GameCube, and the unfortunate Command on DS. Speaking of which, Star Fox needs a bit of help after Command for the DS. Once Retro is done with DK (which after they did a Metroid Prime trilogy, I wouldn't doubt them making another title after Tropical Freeze), they would be the perfect company to bring him back. What they did with Metroid and how they brought back DK is amazing, and giving Fox that treatment would be great! -
Sonic in the Super Smash Bros WiiU/3DS
Th3AntiGuardian replied to Ryo_Inazuma's topic in Multiverses of Sonic the Hedgehog
Yeah, it'll be disappointing, but there are so many awesome characters. i mean really; only Nintendo can put a character like the Wii Fit Trainer in Smash Bros, and actually make it work :D They've actually managed to make me like Mega Man and consider buying one of the games on the 3DS VC, just from the MM trailer XD Of course I REALLY want Sonic in there, but whether he's in there or not, the game's going to be amazing! -
Sonic in the Super Smash Bros WiiU/3DS
Th3AntiGuardian replied to Ryo_Inazuma's topic in Multiverses of Sonic the Hedgehog
I heard that as well, only from what I understand the rumor was about some character from Platinum Games. If that's true, I think it might be a character from Wonderful 101. Like u said, Bayonetta just really wouldn't fit. Of course, I didn't think Snake would have either, and he turned out just fine. Both Sonic and Snake were originally supposed to be put in Melee (along with Tails), however due to time-constraints, they had to drop them from the roster. I've also learned (u guys probably already know this) that both Sonic and Snake were some of the first characters out side of the usual ones to be added, due to them barely missing the Melee roster (that's why Snake was unvieled in the very first trailer). However, something happened with Sega where a part of them told Nintendo no on Sonic in Brawl (I forget exactly what happened, but its in the history of Sonic book). Brawl was delayed several times if u remember, but that last delay was due to the fact Sega changed their minds and then wanted Sonic as a character in Brawl. That's the reason he's last on the character select screen, and why he wasnt revealed until later. Anyway, I have a feeling that he will be announced here soon; I highly doubt MegaMan would be included over Sonic. The only reason I could see that happening is if Nintendo only wants 2 third party characters, and they want to rotate characters from different companies to have some variety. The Smash Bros website is updated daily, and June 23 is the Sonic series 22 anniversary. Plus, every year at the Sonic Boom convention in July Sega makes some announcement or shows something Sonic related. I have a feeling that if he's in SSB, they will show the announcement trailer at Somic Boom. As far as other third party characters, apparently there's a rumor that during the announcement trailer, there is some hint that Sora from Kingdom Hearts will be in the game. I can't find it myself, but just wondering if anyone else knows about this. Another rumor (gotta love how many of these are coming out now lol) is that Nintendo negotiated with Square to use the character Geno from Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars (since Square owns any character they created that was first introduced in the game, including Mallow and Geno). Sorry for rambling, there's just so many rumors. I was shocked at how many people want King K. Rool, and supposedly he's included due to popular demand. Ridley (his form from Other M, which is apparently much smaller and would make it possible for him to be a character) is another rumored character, though I was hoping for Sylux from Metroid Prime Hunters. I'm also hoping for the return of bosses; if there can't be a second character from Sonic, I would love to see Eggman as a boss :D -
Third Nintendo-Exclusive Title This Year?
Th3AntiGuardian replied to Th3AntiGuardian's topic in Multiverses of Sonic the Hedgehog
Yeah, i did hear about that on Sonic Stadium the day the news broke. Not too disappointed, as that lifts the contrainsts of the third game having to be a downloadable game or a spin-off. Still hoping for Chronicles 2 or Rush 3 for 3DS!!! :D Though I'm hoping for Episode 3 at some time on some console...Anyone figure out the "red herring" clue back on hedgehog day in february?????? -
Oh, I should mention; I meant record it on VHS during Season 1 and the start of 2 when it originally aired ^^; A few years back, I had all episodes for all 3 seasons recorded on my DVR (whenever two episodes were shown on Fox every Saturday), but didn't get a chance to watch them all due my famile having to change cable service. I believe I watched through the SA adaptation, didn't even get up to Project: Shadow. After that point, I've seen episodes here and there.
-
I only viewed the English version, started at the very first episode, the first time it aired when I was younger, and loved it! I still have fond memories of it and watch it for nostalgiac purposes occassionally; but really, the voice acting and the English dub was quite bad, at least to me. I really should find the original Japanese version and watch it though; like many people here, I loved how they implemented characters like Shadow, Tikal, Chaos, etc. and loved the game adaptations. However I really lost interest in Season 3; the Metarex and Cosmo just seemed a bit too out there for me, didn't really fit. It didn't feel like a setting that should be used in a Sonic cartoon, but then again, I didn't really watch maybe one or two episodes of it; I've seen most of Season 1, and episodes here and there of Season 2 (missed alot of episodes due to not being able to record it on a VHS), but barely any of Season 3. Like I said, my opinion on characters and plot I really shouldn't make until I view the original show, see how everything was originally intended to unfold.

Third Nintendo-Exclusive Title This Year?
Th3AntiGuardian replied to Th3AntiGuardian's topic in Multiverses of Sonic the Hedgehog
I completely forgot about a Sonic storybook game; I too heard the rumor that there would be one more after Black Knight. If I remember correctly though, after such negative reviews for black Knight, I thought I heard something about sega scrapping the Storybook series??? It is a possibilty it could tie-in with Universe, but IMO the comic arc looks more like a follow-up to Treasure Team Tango, excpet this time taking place in Blaze's world. There will more than likely be Cpt. Whiskers and his crew, but I doubt Sonic will make an appearence (except for the cover of part 1, just like Treasure Team tango) and I don't think the actual story will have much of a pirate theme, outside of the characters fighting pirates. However, I would give ANYTHING for a game with characters like scourge, Finitevus and Shard! Even downloadable, I don't care XD Regardless, I'm kind of hoping it's not (plus i doubt Sega would release a main adventure-based game, and a spin-off adventure based game that close together, as many would choose between the two). Secret Rings was good, but it's defintiely aged in comparison to Unleashed Wii and colors; Secret Rings is one of the few Sonic games I never completed just because the controls could be so irritating (tho when it came out, it was impressive. Nowadays,, there's Zero Gravity and how many first-party Wii games that have much better accuracy). I really liked Black Knight, but it too has aged to me; the gameplay wasnt quite up to par to begin with, I more liked it for the concept, characters, ideas and of course, the fan-art slideshows :D I dunno if Sumo digital could make another Sega All-Stars game so quickly after Transformed, and Nintendo/Sega kart is a possibility. I think that rumor could actually turn out to be Mario/Nintendo Kart, with at least 1 character from the Sonic the Hedgehog universe unlockable. These are some great ideas though; I completely forgot about the comment by Steve Lycett, as well as the storybook Series XD BTW did anyone figure out what the "red herring" clue on hedgehog day was about??? Was it just a false clue? From what I heard, it might have something to do with Sonic & Knuckles, as S&K's original name while in develpement was "Project: Red Herring". -
Wow, my memory must be going lol. Once again forgot that; now I remember how he was relocated (face-palm) And really, Chronicles takes INSPIRATION from the comics, and it just so happend Penders was the writer on Knuckles (and the Chronicles story revolves around Knuckles). Just because they took inspiration from the comic does not really mean that they ripped-off of Ken Penders work specifically. Plus, they really took inspiration from various things, such as the cartoon show and old and obscure Sonic video games. Personally, there's not many similarities to me. I mean, just because Ix is a mad albino echidna doesn't mean that he's a rip-off of Finitevus; many of the Chronicles characters have more differences than similarities to Penders characters. I've defended him somewhat, but this seems a bit of a stretch. Now, I did read somewhere (forget where, somewhere like Sonic Retro or TSSZ) that Penders stated that the writers of Chronicles' story came to him for ideas, and then used his ideas without giving him credit. However, that contradicts Penders story about how a fan made him aware that Bioware "ripped-off" his work on the comics. While I somewhat do like him (again, this doesn't mean I agree with everything he wrote/did; he definitely did have trouble organizing his thoughts and him speaking out against Ian Flynn was wrong), I highly doubt writers from a company like Bioware would go to someone like Penders, who wrote the back-up stories. At the time of developement, Flynn was the head-writer, so you would think if they went to anyone, they would go to him. Plus, why wouldn't they go to Sega??? The whole claim doesn't make sense...

All's I'll say (sorry, havent been on here to reply ;^^) is that it's foolish to believe everything you read on the internet. So in that regard, I'm glad people are still skeptical of what I'm saying of the thought of him being a decent person. He's not my favorite writer, as I said, and he's made plenty of mistakes (I wouldnt be one to buy his Lara-Su Chronicles). However, I think we can all at least agree that there was more going on, and it wasn't ALL him, he's not the sole person to blame. And trust me, I don't exactly want him winning the suit, as there are several other writers/artists waiting to file a law suit with Archie (including Scott Shaw) if Penders wins; all of them are saying they experienced the same problem with Archie using their work without their permission, and claiming that Archie let them legally own the work that they supplied to the book. It was either the Sonic Stadium or the Sonic Scene site(s) who had an article on that a while back. BTW, what about Dimitri? He wasn't one of the Echidnas put in the Twilight Cage like the others (Thrash didnt even know about him in New Mobotropolis), but he's definetely a Penders character. I'm assuming they just won't use him until the legal battle is over; and if they cant use him anymore,he's an easy one to just kill off unfortunately (he's one of my favorites). Anyway, i would hate it if they rebooted the book. My only hope is that the Mega Man cross-over gives them enough time to settle some things with Penders. I thought Genesis was a reboot, and didn't enjoy it that much because I was so worried all of the continuity would be completely wiped away! Plus, the solicits for the first post-Mega Man Sonic comic came out, and while it sounds like there will be some characters affected (Ixis Naugus specifically), it sounds like it's definitely not a reboot (I mean, if they were going to reboot, I think they would have done it during Genesis anyway. The legal battle was going on back then, so not much has changed now to warrant a reboot, as far as we know) I'll admit, I'm not interested in Mega Man in the slightest, but I have kind of enjoyed World's Collide; Ian's dialogue for Eggman and Wily are by far the highlight of the arc for me :D

No, I read that, too. He definitely made some mistakes, and some of the things he said was offensive and wrong (plus, I would not support Lara-Su Chronicles). But from my personal interaction, and from what Dawn Best mentioned to me (I only brought him up to her to tell her that I had e-mailed with him), he just doesn't seem like the same guy I read about on the internet. Anyway, I feel stupid now lol. I knew that Geoffrey was removed from Sonic Legacy Vol. 3, but about a week ago Ben Bates posted the cover on his DeviantArt. That version had Geoffrey on it, but I forgot the same image was a poster in Sonic Super Special 5 without him. I thought when he posted it, something had changed; then I remembered that even with the lawsuit, Tracy Yardley posted the original covers for STH 243 and SU 48 that included Lien-Da and Rob O'. I'm assuming they can really post anything on DeviantArt then, since it's not published? Gotta say, though, the original covers for STH 243 and SU 48 were pretty sweet; especially with mechanical tentacles coming out of Lien-Da's arms.

I've had personal contact with the guy (actually didn't mean to; didn't realize I was having a conversation directly with him through e-mail until half-way into the conversation), and yeah, I'll probably get a ton of hate for saying this, but he's actually a very nice guy. There's a LOT that we don't know; it's a mess for both Archie and Ken. The fact that the suite has went this far means that Ken's allegations is not without merit. SO many people left Archie around the same time (Karl Bollers, Ron Lim, Dawn Best, J. Axer, etc.), there was a lot more internally going on then we're aware of as fans. I felt the same way you all did, and I still hate what's happening with the characters due to the suite. Once I e-mailed back and forth with him, i realised everything I read was very one-sided against the man and not all the way true. He obviously couldn't even mention anything relating to it (didn't even mention anything about his experience at Archie at all), but he did something very nice and personal for me, and was one of the nicest people I've met. I'm not a huge fan of his writting in the comics, however, he's one of the reasons the comics have been going on for so long. Sales were dropping with Karl Bollers, and once he was fired, Ken took the helm and actually improved the sales of the book until Ian Flynn was hired. Everyone's definitely allowed to be upset, it really sucks for fans of the book. But the fact people are actually getting upset that the characters he created are being removed goes to show he had more of an impact than anyone realizes. I mean, Scourge started as one of his characters, Anti-Sonic; Finitevus was introduced as a back-ground character (unnamed) in one of Penders' stories; and obviously Julie-Su, Jani-Ca/Lara-Su, Remington, Lien-Da, Dimitri, any Echidna and Dark Legionairre, Rob, Geoffrey, Elias, Jules, Bernadette, The Destructix (they aren't technically his, but he introduced them. I used to hate them until the Scourge: Lockdown; now they're awesome!) and many more were all his creation. All of his ideas weren't great, but what Ian did with all of these characters are amazing, and I'd hate to see them all gone. The comic could go on,Ian Flynn is amazing, but it would be a shame for a long-time fan like myself. BTW does anyone know how the lawsuit ended???? i was shocked to see that they released several graphic novels that included his work, especially Knuckles Archives 4. Plus, Geoffrey is on the cover of sonic Legacy Vol. 3, drawn by Ben Bates. If they're not allowed to use his characters, than why would Ben Bates be allowed to draw one of Ken's more prominent characters?

Sonic Super Special Magazine- only three issues?
Th3AntiGuardian replied to BlurryDawgo's topic in Comics
I believe it is available on the Sonic Comic app and the Archie Comics App for iPhone, but again, you would have to pay for it. Other than that, I'm not sure that it has been scanned on a site, as it is a decently long book -
Sonic Super Special Magazine- only three issues?
Th3AntiGuardian replied to BlurryDawgo's topic in Comics
Do you have access to buy it? Definitely worth the money! And if you are willing to spend money on it, the timeline is also included in the Sonic Comic Encyclopedia, all in one book rather than being spread across multiple issues. I would highly recommend the encyclopedia, even if you've read every issue like me. It even includes info on characters like Mephiles who have not been introduced in the comic at this point. Just a thought, I totally undertsand if you can't or aren't willing to buy them, just a great read for a Sonic comic fan :) -
Which was your favourite Sonic Universe arc so far? (If you read it)
Th3AntiGuardian replied to DarkPulseGirl's topic in Comics
Good question! SO many good ones! Mine, however, must be SCRAMBLED (surprised noone else said that). Tho, the Metal Sonic story in 50 was awesome and my favorite issue, if we're talking about multiple-issue arcs, it's Scrambled. While I missed Tracy Yardley as the artist, Jamal Peppers did a great job, and Ian Flynn does an amazing job writting dialogue for Eggman. From him saying "Get a load of THIS!" and humming the song E.G.G.M.A.N., to Snively finally being defeated and Orbot & cubot replacing him, made it awesome! Loved seeing some new Grandmasters, pt. 2 was great with Omega, and the showdown between Eggman and Snively (not to mention the ending threw me for a loop and was unexpeced). Shadow Saga was obviously great, loved Knuckles Returns (best video game character of all time!), treasure Team Tango was fun and light-hearted (nice change of pace), Silver Saga was an AWESOME follow-up to Ken Penders story, Scourge Lockdown was great (suprised nobody said that one; actually made me like the Destructix, whom I hated strongly before hand), Secret Freedom was great, and I actually like the Sonic & All-Stars Racing story. And c'mon, no Chaotxix Quest??? Sorry for rambling but; Top 3: 1. Scrambled Eggman (tho 50 was my favorite single issue) 2. Chaotix Quest 3. Tie between Silver Saga and Shadow Saga Least favorite was Journey to the East. While I liked pt. 3 with Espio, the rest was very predictable (Sonic talks to Clan leader, gets them to go against Iron dominion, and Sonic moves to next one). Even still, I greatly enjoyed it, and like I said, loved the issue with Espio! -
...Those would be 4 characters I really wouldn't want to see again. The BBA was a nice surprise and gave Tails a new rival and a group of villians that would be primarily for Tails (similar to how Sonic has Eggman and Knuckles has Finitevus (used to be Dimitri & the Dark Legion)). Interesting thought though. Now that Metal Knuckles and Doll Tails have been introduced, I didn't really think that the Skypatrol baddies were the only video game characters not to be featured. Trying to think of others without succes. I'd rather see a proper intro to Nega, Black Doom, Mephiles, Iblis, etc. before them. Like I said though, never would've thought of that
