  1. Well, despite the fact that Ken's concepts and characters cannot be given any future use beyond reprints, Scourge has appeared in Sonic Universe #50 as a flashback, been directly mentioned in the Sonic #256 letters page, and is on the cover for Best of Sonic the Hedgehog #3: Rivals, which will likely be released in the late summer or early fall of this year.

Right. My guess is that if Scourge comes back, he will have a completely different backstory, but with a similar/the same personality as before the reboot.

Darn the comic is going down here I`m afraid this is the dark age for the comic series.

Ouch. Are you sure it's not too early to say that? I'm waiting until after the Unleashed arc to pass final judgement on the new world.

  2. Though wasn't Orbot also in Sonic Unleashed as well but a little bit different? I do recall a robot that was similar in appearance and personality.

That was indeed Orbot, then known officially as SA-55 (but known by fans as 'Ergo' do to his constant use of the word in that game).

The difference in voice was likely because of different voice casts, since Unleashed was still in the 4Kids Era.

  3. Yeah, I've seen that. (At the end of his 'Red Hood & The Outlaws #1' review.) Part of me feels like it was just a joke, considering people had been begging him to review that particular DC comic after he did 'One More Day'. But, if he does actually review another Archie Sonic comic, I'll bet it will definately be something from the Penders Era, as I can't recall many issues from the Flynn Era that people hated. (Well, maybe 'Endangered Species'... but that just comes right back to Penders. Plus, I'd say it's too far into the old continuity for Linkara to review it.) I also highly doubt that he'll do something from the new continuity, or the crossover for that matter. Unfortunately, as I started reading from Issue #220 onwards, I don't have nearly as much knowledge of the older series as others here do, so I'll leave the specific guesses to them.

  4. Scourge or Anti-Sonic was before Penders. Well okay the transformation of Scourge was in Ken Penders hands, but the idea for a Anti-picture from the hero Sonic the Hedgehog was in the comics from 0-50.

I hope there will be the Anti Freedom Fighters. I really enjoy it, when they arrived Mobius Prime.

Actually, it's the other way around; Anti-Sonic (along with most, if not all Anti-FFs) was created by Penders, and Scourge was born in Ian Flynn's first issue of the series, so the character of 'Scourge' is technically still Flynn's creation. Although, IF Scourge comes back he'd likely have a slightly different backstory.

  5. We are focus on StH. Eclipse and Captain Metal Sonic - Oh I love these two characters, but they are in the Sonic Universe Sagas and as you can see the Pirate Plunder Panic was a seperated storyline from StH and there were no games in it. In the Shadow Fall saga the new story is built over the past in the games. Shadow the Hedgehog and Sonic Adventures 2 were in the background at Shadow's past. It is better when the new adventures are build on the storyline of the games.

Just because they debuted in Universe doesn't mean that they can't play a big part in the main series. But I get what you mean. The problem is that we're still getting used to the new world, so things haven't exactly had the time to fully develop yet. Aside from the new characters that'll be introduced in 'Waves of Change', it's unlikely that we'll be seeing new villains until after the Unleashed arc. With that said, I also don't see them jumping from one game arc straight to the next (in this case, Unleashed to Lost World) without a breather arc, perhaps bringing back older enemies (such as Naugus).

  6. Well, that all depends on how many new villains will appear later in the series, along with (hopefully) some familiar faces too. As far as the new continuity is concerned, there's a couple new villians who'll likely appear more in the future, such as Eclipse, and if you want to count the Sol Zone too, there's Captain Metal/Egg O' War/Wily Egg, Captain Whisker & his crew, and (again, hopefully) Eggman Nega. Also, if we're to count future events, the Deadly Six from Lost World could become recurring villains. (And I'm sure Ian would be able to give them actual personalities too.) With all that said, I don't believe that every single arc will be about 'Sonic vs. Eggman'.

  7. Just finished reading Issue #259 (minus the alternate ending), so here are my initial thoughts:

it was pretty good. The fight between Sonic and Eta was at least interesting, and I still got a kick out of the humour. Professor Pickle shows us that he isn't entirely cucumber-sandwich-focused, giving the heroes the knowledge he has of the Gaia Temples. We get yet another Werehog teaser, and now Chuck's getting pretty worried. I was kinda surprised that Sonic isn't even telling Sally about the incident. But now Eggman has the manuscripts, and (in the main ending at least) it seems as though Axel's base is one of the Temples. Overall, I found it to be a fun two-parter, but I'll be interested to see how things go for the Freedom Fighters in the next arc.

  8. So I finally got to read Issue #35, and I have to say... what an issue it was! MM's trek through the ruins was a nice conclusion to the Ra Moon arc, but I didn't really feel like that was the part that people will remember about this issue. No, the big part here was definately the confrontation between Blues/Break Man and Tempo/Quake Woman. I've always wondered what it would be like for these two characters with similar backgrounds to finally meet, and it didn't disappoint. I think what really sold it for me was when Blues finally snapped (with added symbolism to boot), and Dr. Lalinde ended the argument, for her own reasons. Easily one of the best MM issues so far!

As for the MMX side-story... well, I found it to be the same as the story with Mega Man; a good distraction and build-up to the upcoming 'X-Over' (really, Ian?), but nothing more. I'm interested to see what'll happen next issue with Dr. Wily's trial. (Oh, and yet more alternate endings next time! ...Yeah, I'm not really excited for that.)

  9. I wonder when the next trailer is coming out... I am very excited and curious on what Amy's voice is going to sound like.

Best guess for the next trailer is E3. As for Amy's voice... unfortunately, she's still gonna have her 'Minnie Mouse' voice (if the behind-the-scenes is anything to go by).

  10. I probably should've been more specific with my thoughts; Looking back at the issue... I have to agree. I don't find them to be threatening either, but BD's death is still a highlight for me. (What can I say, I like explosions.) However, I agree that Eclipse is pretty much reduced to nothing but a whining child near the end. ('Tis a shame.)

  11. Just got finished reading Issue #62, and (after thinking more about it) I can tell you all right now that...

...it was okay. While Shadow does fight Black Death (who even uses familiar attacks to those who've played Shadow The Hedgehog), I didn't really find it to be the main focus. Instead, it seemed to be more focused on the bomb being activated, with Eclipse (who is revealed to have a temporarily powered-up form) taking on Omega in the background. BD's death was a highlight for me, along with the bomb blowing up, of course. As I (and likely many others) expected, Eclipse does survive (though I'm not entirely sure about the Dark Arms), threatening that his revenge will be far worse for Shadow than BD's. That being said, Eclipse's reluctance to leave (even causing Death's Eye to drag him to the escape ship) portrays him as nothing but a whining child. We'll see if his threats are legitimate or not at some point.

Also, this was the first issue of 'After The Credits Month', so here are the different endings:

In the main cover's final page, Knuckles is in the Sky Rail Zone (not to be confused with Pumpkin Hill, so no rap music) sensing a faint energy (most likely a Chaos Emerald). He mentions about how he hates to leave Angel Island, even if he's "got her looking after..." he then notices a 'shooting star' heading to the ground, which he hopes that it doesn't hit his island, as he's "got enough to deal with as it is." What he doesn't realise is that the 'shooting star' is actually the ship that Eclipse was forced to escape in...

I'll post the variant cover's final page once I've found and read it.

  12. I hope they don't make the comics like the games. Archie Sonic should be it's own story, and it's own world. In Archie, the story's are a lot more serious then the games in my opinion, and i like that. I also like the fact that the characters develop and grow over time. As a major Tails fan, i was really looking forward to when he would be a teenager so that he would stop being treated like a child (Maybe it could also make artists stop drawing him as a sissy crybaby).

While the series will have its own stories, there are still going to be many connections to the games, whether we like it or not. (I'm personally fine with this.) As for Tails' age, I don't recall them ever bringing it up in the reboot yet, so I wouldn't worry about it too much. That being said, of course each character will develop & grow as time passes, but I don't expect any major changes in age. As for being treated like a child (and by extension, the 'artists' remark) ...since when has that happened recently?

  13. I just realised something: the cover refers to Chip by that name, but it was Sonic who came up with the name in Unleashed. Granted, that is the name that most fans know him by (and saying his real name is a major spoiler for Unleashed), but it does make me wonder... I'm probably thinking too hard again. We'll see what happens.

  14. I thought Hornet Man would be a Honey Woman, because in the earlier concept she was a woman, but as we can see in StH 250, it's a Man.

I recall learning that, during Mega Man 9's production, Hornet Man and Splash Woman were supposed to be opposite genders from what we know them as now. Sometime later in development, they were switched, resulting in the Hornet Man and Splash Woman we know nowadays. I'm still not sure why it was changed, though...

  15. Hey guys! Here are the covers for the upcoming Universe Issue #65 - The Great Chaos Caper, Part 3 (spoilered due to a new-ish character reveal):

    1339703_ful.jpg1339704_ful.jpg

ARCHIE SONIC UNIVERSE ISSUE #65: Bust out your detective hats and hop on the case in 'The Great Chaos Caper', Part 3. Knuckles and the Chaotix are in the heart of the Aquatic Mines-where their only two options are to get crushed by a cave-in, or to drown! How on earth (and below earth!) can they make it out alive? And once they do, they've got to chase down the unlikely Chaos Emerald thief before Nack's team of Hooligans beat them to it! Add in ravenous Dark Gaia Monsters, and there may be too much for our heroes to handle! Featuring new cover art from Sonic comic guru Tracy Yardley and an awesome SEGA game art variant starring the Chaotix!

I'm not normally a fan of the SEGA variants, but I think this one looks... okay. On the other hand, it looks like Unleashed's plot-device is gonna debut in the comic soon!

  16. It's that time again! Here are the covers and solicitations for the upcoming Issue #262:

    1339702_ful.jpg1339701_ful.jpg

ARCHIE SONIC THE HEDGEHOG ISSUE #262: Catch some sun and ride the wave as the aquatic adventure continues in 'Waves of Change', Part 3! Sonic faces a city invasion by the ominous Dark Gaia Monsters! To make it even worse, the invasion is underwater - and Sonic can't swim! As the struggle turns desperate, will it be Amy's mission to find the key to saving them all, or will Sonic be left to drown? Then, in 'The Light in the Dark' Part 2, the Freedom Fighters find what they're looking for - but will their own divisions bring them down?

Featuring new cover art from Ben Bates and an extra-special 'monster movie' variant from artist T.REX!

...I want that variant. I will do everything in my power to get that variant! What are your thoughts, guys?

  17. On a slightly different tangent, the second to last character on the bottom row kind of reminds me of Tikal, but not by much. It's the orange skin and the colouration of the dress.

I get more of a 'Vanilla the Rabbit' vibe from it, but there has been a bit of a debate about who it might be. But then again, it could be neither, just another 'inspiration'.

  18. I think they're mostly referring to this article: http://www.sonicstad...t-art-surfaces/

More specifically, two character images are reminiscent of previous Sonic characters. I'll let you guess which ones: (spoilered due to size)

    Sonic-Boom-Concept-Artwork-Adjusted.jpg

Interestingly enough, the two (or three) characters that everyone has noticed were only really one-time characters in the main series. Although, looking at 'Emerl'... I highly doubt that it's actually him. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised at all if it's just another Eggman robot, and the creators were just 'inspired by' Emerl. But who knows?

  19. So, my thoughts on Issue #258... Meh. It's nothing to write home about, and while it had some interesting moments, I felt that it was kinda repetitive. E-106 Eta has a cool design... but that's about it. Professor Pickle is his usual chef-criticising, cucumber-sandwich-centric self. But when the whole issue can be summed up as "Nope, not in this container." it just doesn't work for me. I'm interested in seeing how Part Two will play out, since it's bound to be more than just 'Sonic vs. Eta: Round 1'.

Oh, and the alternate endings begin next issue! (...Huzzah, I guess?)

  20. If it's any help, I can always try to find the alternate endings (from the variant covers) and post them here and/or on the STH, Universe & MM topics when they're released. That way, the uploader(s) can continue to upload the standard versions (with the standard ending) as usual, but you can still see the alternate endings.

How does that sound to you guys?
