Not really, I mean, the comics are a good example, and games like Sonic CD, the adventure games, Battle, and ironically, the storybook titles. If anything, Shadow and 06 are the extreme in dark and serious, while colors is the extreme in light hearted. For other examples of balanced content, look at the Ratchet and Clank games, Sly Cooper, Jak and Daxter, and the TMNT series before the current one on Nickelodeon.

ratchet and clank... not the best exemple , if one assume all of the innuendo and emphasis on "heavy" weapons.....

and for jak and daxter, if it weren't for daxter and the graphics, if would have been less light hearted.....

at last, TMNT was a parody at heart, of old adult comics of the 80's , or something.

but at the very leastt, I understand your concern, after all, one might love to have a game based on an already quit rich universe, such as sonic archie; then again, it would mean messing up with the video game continuity, and the already well broken fanbase.
