  1. Major news everyone, it seems Penders is hinting at another lawsuit in a recent tweet of his. You can read about it here: http://www.tssznews.com/2015/10/20/ken-penders-hints-second-lawsuit-in-tweet/

Honestly if this really happens again it will be utterly ridiculous, what did Archie do to make his pipes explode again? The comic has been rebooted and no longer feature his characters, then it must be the reprints?? But even those are trying to avoid reprinting his material, they've changed the graphic novels title arcs or avoid featuring his characters on the covers. Sonic Legacy and Knuckles Archives have already been cancelled obviously because of this, if Sonic Archives gets cancelled I'm going to be very P*ssed because that is the only graphic reprint series reminding that I'm still willing to pay for.

  2. I remember reading Mobius: X years later where Sonic's kids were wiped out from existence because of the altered timeline, while the final print's panels of Sonic crying were sad to see the original has even more feels, just check out Tracey Yardley's DA scraps to see what I mean. Family death, especially kids, is no laughing matter.

People like Lien-Da and Fiona Fox's backstories were sad to read as it was what made them turn evil ultimately, they wouldn't be if they had a good childhood. I was empathetic to Fiona more and I wish she hadn't turn evil, couldn't blame her though for all that's happened.

Character deaths throughout the series were very sad but the one that hit me the most was Nate Morgan. The poor guy really didn't deserve to die, he was brilliant intellectually yet his crappy luck made him suffer so much from both Overlander and Mobian alike. His death was chilling to see and so utterly frustrating no one cared after that.

Let me think of other significant character deaths:

    • Hope's family dying was a very tragic one. Like Nate, it was chilling to see them get Roboticized, whats more by their own relative, none other than Eggman himself. Reading issue 105 itself already gives you so much feels.
    • Tobor's story was another sad one to read. Got his identity swapped with his enemy for the reminder of his life and never seeing his family again, only to come back briefly and end up dying.
    • I felt sad to see the Ancient Walkers die as the storylines involving them were so interesting in the older issues. Ian Flynn wanted to remove them as they were God-like characters, thus not wanting religious stuff in the series from what I remember.
    • Mecha was another character I felt sad to see go. I personally liked her and being completely loyal to Eggman till the end caused her death, I mean she self-destructed under Eggman's orders despite being wrongly accused!
    • Just wanted to put it out that I never cared for Tommy Turtle and I was happy to see him go, I mean almost everyone including Ian Flynn hated how they brought him back from the dead to join the Freedom Fighters and it was done so forcefully that made him so pathetic. Ian made a good decision to kill him off, at that time all the fans were waiting for it.
    • Locke was a interesting character in the series and it sucked personally to see him die, I mean it was weird, him and Knuckles' relationship was written well and it felt empty without him in the series after that. I always felt he was never dead but that he's just somewhere out there to be found again.
    • Remington crying over the demise of the Brotherhood of Guardians. I mean we never knew if they were truly dead or not because what is known was that they were tossed into the Twilight Zone by Dr Finitevus. It made me think for the other Echidna characters who died around the same time too, most perished by Eggman's Egg Grapes, they were all were classics in the older issues I loved.
    • While the idea of Charmy Bee being a prince was the only idea from the old continuity I disliked, it was nonetheless tragic to see his entire colony killed along with his family. Aside from Saffron Bee they never found any survivors.
    • Geoffrey thinking that Hershey is a goner was more than enough to feel sympathy for. The poor skunk only joined Naugus because he has nothing important in his life left, only to realize Naugus is just as twisted as any other villain is, so chilling to see him get possessed and being technically "erased" from existence when the Genesis Wave hit. What fan who read the comics before the reboot wouldn't feel devastated to know so many beloved characters got wiped out by the wave?

  3. You did that yourself??? o_o looks like the page from older Sonic comic...

Yup! I drew heavily from references and the comics I had, all done in my own poses however. Alot of Steven Butler and Tracy Yardley influence I suppose..  :D

  4. Hey guys, it's been awhile since I last came here. I thought I'd tease you all with something:

    tumblr_npptgwdzOV1tv3exdo1_1280.jpg

Ta da, since last year I've been sketching out the entire main cast of Sonic Archie prior to the reboot. Planning to place them all together when I'm done and I'm far from finished. Hope you like it! :)

  5. What on earth seriously, signing and selling an issue he completely had nothing to do with. I wonder if Ian has even heard of this, I'd be ticked if someone sold my products you know.

Oh word that image Penders made is horrible, he really needs to take art classes. I'm only an art student in college and I can see all the mistakes on it, bad coloring choices.

  6. My word, this is utterly Meanieed. I knew he would do something pathetic like this, pah, I'm sure his fanbase would understand how we feel now. How much more nonsense will he come up with? Possibilities are endless with his so called 'logic'. Well thank you Penders for screwing up the comics that Ian and Archie had to reboot and now screwing up your own characters. The negativity towards you is obviously because your ideas are stupid and you've got to change them, not to mention your ego centric personality. Selfish derp, the comics are going to die all because of you, cared for nothing but your own creations, it was never about Sonic in the first place, you never played any of his games! That's why you took Sonic Chronicles the wrong way when they simply paid homage to the characters you made, not stealing them you dumb ass.

Yes I still don't get how anyone can respect or support him. His meddling has been seen from the very beginning, first ruining SATam's 3rd season and next with Archie Comics then his very OWN comic, which will utterly fail. Look at what's happened, he went around ruining people's happiness obviously of jealousy because SATam and Archie would have better business than him. Sure the attentions all on him now, but like I give a hoot about his boring work. Doesn't even know how to write a proper good story.

  7. Utter despair? Gee, that's quite a strong emotion to feel.

I know, forgive me sounding too negative, it's not easy to forget the past 20 years of the comic straight away. Trying to look at the brighter side of it least I'm still reading the book and that it hasn't been cancelled. The reboot's okay, I do like the redesigns a lot and it's the only change that I support of even though I'll miss their old designs.

To be on topic, I'm guessing now the endings to each issue are now simply from another character's point of view or something? Just that they conclude the same way. I feel that somewhat.

If it's any help, I can always try to find the alternate endings (from the variant covers) and post them here and/or on the STH, Universe & MM topics when they're released. That way, the uploader(s) can continue to upload the standard versions (with the standard ending) as usual, but you can still see the alternate endings.

How does that sound to you guys?

I think that be great help, very appreciated. Unless the uploaders are able to get both issues and place the alternate ending at the very back of the same issue.

  8. Kinda interesting but I mostly feel this is money grabbing honestly. Makes me more glad I stopped buying anyway since I can just read them here. The recent lawsuit has left me in utter despair, I'll only be buying the reprints to show Archie I AM in no support of the reboot, it's my opinion I hope you understand friends. I'm still reading the comic just not buying them anymore as I used to.

  9. you don't get it . I don't like this reboot . But I don't hate it either. I'm just.... heartbroken . An happy ending to endangered species ? I was one of the first to hope for that ! I wanted to see those echidna so badly... And what of Shard ? I just try to stay out of this kind of thing .

I'm sorry, I appeared to misunderstood what you said. I don't hate it too, just .. heartbroken like you said. I think Ian is going to reveal what will happen to Shard, since he has a lot to fill us on all the characters who are involved in the King Naugus arc.

Btw, if I may, I quoted someone who summed this mess up perfectly:

"The stage has changed. Back in the old days of the book, it was like the old west. You had no idea what to expect and the world was full of potential. Now though, we are back to that point but there's not nearly as much left to imagination because the idea of Sonic and his world and friends is alot more well defined and they can't get away with as many oddities. Everything's gotta fit the current set. Worse yet for someone like me, I'm not especially fond of SEGA's modern interpretation of Sonic. Besides that, to everyone who was with the book before the purge, everything new is going to be compared to what came before. For me, this particular fictional universe lost alot of it's soul and no matter how much New you add, it's still going to miss the Old."

    100% in agreement like seriously.

  10. You have a point Locke, but like I said it will take me a long while to get over it, thanks man. I'm just not happy with the reboot as some people are, I hope you understand I have my opinion while you can have yours.

No they didn't have it planned, Ian had never thought of it. I mentioned before Ian had stated many things had to be changed and he intended for issues 230 - 250 to be the Freedom Fighters Fall while issues 251 - 300 were to be the Freedom Fighters return and back in action. The current issues are somewhat like the original idea but now in a rebooted world, without the climax for many things like Naugus', Gefforey's, Hershey's, Mecha Sally's fate, etc.. They obviously did it because they lost a large sum of the cast and places, the rebooted world has no Penders-created material whatsoever.

If you're all not aware Ian made a topic about his cancelled ideas for the original road to 300 which he will reveal before Summer. He will reveal the climax for the whole Naugus and Mecha Sally arc among many things. Here's the post: http://www.bumbleking.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=7231 They never intended for a reboot at all but for the story to continue as it was.

Ian also revealed that "Endangered Species" was supposed to be a happy ending and Doctor Finitevus was to be a HUGE player on the road to issue 275. All these ideas sound so awesome and it makes so mad Penders ruined it.

  11. What in the world, seriously?! Wanting to go after SEGA after 10 years without realizing his artwork is inside? This is more than enough proof how twisted this man is and how much attention he is yearning from the fan base since he lost his spotlight after leaving as head writer for the comics. And he just had to come in and screw everything up for Ian, poor guy had to rewrite his script up to 300 again because of his stupid claims. Am I the only one who is still soooo incredibly angry over this mess? Really hard to get over it, the reboot has been so boring for me so far, nothing special and the whole "countdown" isn't as exciting as I thought it would be, only the covers look awesome.

  12. So this new arc will be Sonic just chasing a train? How boring. Hopefully it will go beyond my expectations because the solicits always have wrong information, they need to come up with better plots. The SEGA variant covers have been terrible from the beginning, this is such a good example.

The style for the main cover is kinda cool but it isn't as interesting as the pervious one, they should always make covers that get fans hyped up with good action and relates to the story of the arc. Better than Gerg Horn's bland covers though.

  13. Reading the last part of what you said, Simon... now I don't think Amy will be getting her old memories back. Ah well, that's fine by me!

That's exactly what I feel too, I don't mind it at all. I have this funny feeling Sally nor Amy will be getting their memories back because they have relatives who are Penders characters who they obviously cannot and should not remember, it will cause a lot of problems if they do. I think Sally will be more of a problem since she would want to know what has happened to her family since her roboticization. Funny thing is that Sonic remembers and he doesn't appear to care of what has become of his parents in this new world, weird to the max.

  14. Tsk, SEGA and their mandates... SIGH, depressing year for the comics having characters banned from the comics to a reboot which is obviously just to avoid the Penders material like a plague. Seriously..

Anyway you reminded me, Ian mentioned that story arcs will now be shorter. Are you all happy with this decision? Just wondering..

  15. Welcome to Sonic Scanf IcedCoffee! I recommend Sonic #160 though, #200 and Sonic Genesis are good starts too, you'll just love Ian's writing despite not having a good understanding of the characters or places. But let me give you a summary of the entire series...

    • Issues 1 to 20 are very comedic and there is absolutely no plot at all, I have a soft spot for it, but there are really a lot of bad puns here and there. A lot of characters introduced in this era would appear much later having more larger roles. Harvey Hoo and Hip and Hop are some examples.
      • Issues 21 to 50 is when the comic starts to have a plot and slowly becomes more serious. This era is considered a favourite by many of the long time fans of the series as this is the period where it resembles the SATam cartoon the closest. Worth the read and major stuff happens during this time that will be referenced many times later.
        • Issues 51 to 100 is is also a good period, although many people don't seem to care about this era there are a lot of good ideas used for this era and it's personally my favourite. Sonic and Tails travelling the world and doing awesome stuff. Knuckles' series starts at this time as well and they have very good stories, occasionally crossing over with Sonic's story where they team up alongside their respective supporting cast. With issue 100, the quality of the story starts to drop at this point and I'll explain below..

          • Issues 101 to 159 is what everybody views as the most horrible and worst part of the entire series. They all hold almost no value whatsoever to the plot and really had a lot of stupid ideas. (I like to point out some people view this dark era starting with 88 or so, but I don't feel it is) Issues 101 to 107 are decent though, but artist Ron Lim had killed the comic by this point, the only good things are the stories themselves. Issue 108's back story is the epilogue to the whole Overlander storyline that begun with issue 92. HOWEVER, I must point out that although this era was really crappy there are some good story arcs during this time that are either worth the read or important to the continuing plot..

[*]The love triangle between Sonic, Sally and Mina continues with issues 109(backstory), 120, 121(backstory) and finally 122 and 123, but will continue with 153 and 154 which ties it up completely. It's up to you if want to follow this, still referenced a few times later in the comic.

[*]Issues 124 and 125 is worth the read and rather important. I highly recommend it, it's really epic. The whole of Mobius teams up to defeat the Xorda who are aliens bent on destroying planet, but it doesn't turn out well for Sonic..

[*]Issues 126 to 129 is the Tossed in Space arc which focuses on Sonic travelling back to Mobius after the whole Xorda incident, interesting stories presented here.

[*]Issues 130 to 134 is the Home arc with Sonic finally returning to Mobius with a lot of drama happening here. Quite good also, but issue 134 features Sonic and Sally's breakup that will continue into the plot until this day.

[*]Issues 138 to 141 is the Return to Angel Island arc which is one that's important to Knuckles story, and another which I would highly recommend with it being a very good arc. Jon Gray pencils the entire arc with his very stylish skill, you will either like it of hate it.

[*]You can also try Issues 145 to 149, but it's meh, good plot but stupid dialogue. Unless you really want to see Shadow and Metal Sonic in action, the whole thing goes nowhere as writer Ken Penders left before he did what he wanted with it.

[*]You can try 152 also as it introduces the Nanites which would be very important for the story later concerning Sonic's new home. If not you can probably skip it, once again interesting plot but stupid dialogue.

[*]Issues 157 to 159 is also meh, but it would be important for a particular someone who is backstabbing Eggman who will rise later in Ian's stories.

[*]You might also want to check out Mobius X Years later storyline, a possible future for Sonic himself, this is completely optional. Starting with the back stories of issue 131 to issue 144.

Yup, all those issues I never mentioned just avoid, not worth it or important.

[*]Issues 160 onwards is where Ian Flynn takes over the writing and the comic feels newly afresh with his writing skills. His stories are all worth reading and you'll enjoy it I'm sure. A lot of lose ends from the horrible period of the comic is tied up at the beginning of this era. It might bore you but the stories are personally still enjoyable. Sonic Universe issues would start during this time, focusing on other characters besides Sonic, awesome as well. And the reboot with issue 252 you should know about already.

Just take it from someone who has read like all the issues. You will need to use Mobius Encyclopaedia to help guide you on the continuity of the issues so you don't get lost, since there's Miniseries, Knuckles issues, Super Specials and so forth that take place within the continuity. I hope you'll have an awesome time reading and enjoying the stories and your stay here. :)

  16. Ian Flynn had actually wanted to do a Sonic Universe arc featuring Amy and her back story, it was even mentioned in one of the letter pages of the Sonic issues during Iron Dominion if I remember correctly, cannot remember which issue, a fan had asked about Amy's parents. Unfortunately, the idea has apparently been dropped as Rob is no longer allowed in the comics and Mercia has been changed to Avalon because of the recent Penders lawsuit and SEGA's mandate on SEGA characters not having family members, the subject not even supposed to be touched on. Which is a real shame to be honest, I was looking forward to it and I don't believe it's possible for such a story any longer. I can assume Amy's parents were deroboticized but maybe lost their memories cause of a side effect and wandered Mobius? (That was what was going to happen with Nate Morgan had he came back) With the new timeline, I think Amy parents are dead, and Amy having lost her memories of the previous world is obviously a plot device just to make her forget about Rob and her parents.

  17. He created them. He came up with them. All he wanted was to be paid for his work later on.

what would you do if you where in his place ?

And please take note that i'm not taking side.

Penders started taking action with the whole Bioware 'copying' his characters not the royalties, that was later. In order to combat Bioware he copyrighted all his characters he made for Archie to use it against them, but Archie sued him for doing that and we all know what went on from there. I've talked about this a few pages back with my massive post so please look back for those who are unsure or didn't know.

Not that I want to hate him really, but the way he did it was so urgh and all his comments toward Ian and the current comic. I still don't understand how he says Juile Su and Shade are the same. Penders himself admitted he never played ANY of the Sonic games that shows he never bothered to check Chronicles itself properly, otherwise he wouldn't have went ahead with his assumption and started the mess. The Marauders were homage to your characters not rip offs for pete's sake Penders. He wasn't exactly a bad writer but I'm not too fond of his style, he made good plots but with terrible dialogue. That's why I prefer Karl's writing much better. Yeah, his characters look awesome but never really do anything, he could have done it better and that's where Ian made them much better. I've repeated myself so many times already so you all should know.

Oh yeah, if you all didn't know, there was a recent interview with Ian Flynn and he officially confirmed that Knuckles' established back story in the comics is no longer canon. That shot a hole in my heart upon hearing that but I knew that was going to be the case given the reboot :(

  18. Hey, don't be sad. At least, it's not a full reboot, like in all those others comic books....

Yeah, you have a point. I'm aware of it, at least they still remember the old world. I just miss the old world so bad, the Sonic Encyclopaedia delivered it so well and I was excited for more potential stories and it all ended up being thrown away. Not to mention I was introduced to the book with the Genesis arc and I went back catching up with the series and fell in love with it and look what happened before it could even reach the next milestone issue. Maybe I'm saying too much, like you said we should wait for 2 arcs completed and we'll see what we get.

They would do the semi-reboot even without Penders' interference!

No, who said that? Ian had been repeatedly saying that his original plans up to issue 300 have been thrown out the window (So sad to hear that personally) and had to start all his plans again because one by one both characters and places were slowly stripped from him and cannot be used. The only elements kept was that the Freedom Fighters were supposed to be introduced back and having redesigns but Ian never thought the Pendering would affect the book. To think Ian use to brag about how SEGA gave him so much creative freedom only for them to stab him in the back like that, can tell he's under lots of stress from this.

  19. If I remember correctly, Ixis was actually used in SATam's bible notes just that Naugus wasn't called that in the actual show so it wasn't Penders' idea. I'm not very sure, someone should look it up.

Well, I'm P*ssed to the max, I'm not really liking the reboot at all. Thank you so bloody much Mr Penders for ruining the greatest comic book series ever. It's all your friggin' fault. But like I said before I will still read the book, just can't help but keep remembering this mess happened and screwed up the comics forcing Archie to have a soft reboot to make up for the loss of characters and places that Penders created. I'll try to my best to forget about it and move on.

  20. Wait, did Sega directly say "The characters cannot have family members" even though King Acorn called Sally his daughter and Cream's mother is a recurring character that will obviously reappear in the future?

I said SEGA characters not Archie characters. Cream is different as she is the only SEGA character to have a parent introduced by them so its fine, SATam/Archie characters are fine too. Ian said this on his forums that this is a mandate he has to comply with which is honestly stupid and annoying.

I wonder why everyone is so eager to go back to the darka ge of the comic...... a time where sonic and his friend suffered in highschool , and where mina and co were struggling to find their places in a world torn up by war against a dangerous and global foe....

Huh? Nobody said the dark age of the comic which was before Ian's run but from where the old timeline left off with the Naugus arc being left without a climax. Those were only a few issues, the high school ones you mentioned. Sure the previous timeline had some stupid ideas, mainly issues 101 to 159 are regarded by fans to be the worst part of the series (though there were some good issues like the Xorda arc, Tossed in space, Return to Angel Island). But are you meaning you don't miss it and don't like it? I love how the series has more interaction between characters and expanded on a lot of things the games had never addressed and despite a rather large and complicated cast of characters, I loved it with a many characters to look at. Aren't everyone on Mobius fighting Eggman who is global foe? Why not? Isn't he supposed to be? What do you mean bro?

  21. So strange to see Muttski a mobian now, don't really like this idea. I was really hoping it would have either been Dulcy or Nate Morgan, feel cheated, they said it was a returning character, how is Muttski a returning character when he has been in New Mobotropolis all this while and never left? Oh well, solicits sometimes are so misleading..

So Ian finally confirmed they can't use Mobius, really wish they tell us the reason instead letting us bloat about it why.

Finally, Sonic finally called Uncle Chuck, "Uncle Chuck". The whole SEGA mandate that SEGA characters cannot call their relatives "dad", "mom", etc is so annoying and stupid. Hehe, an "Uncle to many", love that roll call hash tag.

Love Lamar's art, it's like Steven Butler but better. The guy needs to do more interior art.

Although I'm fine with redesigns I can't help but feel this reboot has screwed up the comics all thanks to a particular former writer. No climax for the King Naugus arc, 2 years of interesting storylines thrown out, major characters purged and millions of plot holes to fill in since majority of the comic's foundation was by Penders(He had just canceled out his legacy in the book if you think about it). Sigh, very very very P*ssed. The series elements I loved so much gone. Forgive me guys but I really wanted to get this off my chest for awhile so just ignore this rant. I'll still keep reading the book despite many of my favorite characters gone, it will take me a lot to drop the book and I'm positive Ian will come up with many good and fun ideas while I try to put away the old Mobius that's gone now.

  22. Yeah, I prefer due to avoiding pitfalls that series fell into. For example in series I have no idea why Antoine was even taken for missions. I found comics to be more creative: while main premise is good, secondary characters, Robotnik's machines and plots are really dull. For example: remember stealth-bots from cartoon? Boring scout ships. In Sally mini-series for example enemies were much cooler. How about that UFO from Cry of the Wolf? Dull. Whats about Griff? Is he better that Geoffrey or Evil Sonic? Do you care about deep power stones? Is there is anything worth putting from cartoon into comic? And Robotnik...he acted sinister. He sounded cool. But I dont remember him doing anything cool.

Oh yeah I have to admit some of the designs were dull and generic, I'm glad some of them weren't put in the comic. Though I felt the comic did not have consistancy and character development much, I'm that type of person who prefers things to develop slowly and have a build up to something major. Example, Uncle Chuck regaining his free will was too fast in the comic. I like how the series depicted a sort of battle for him till he got back his free will. NICOLE felt very uninteresting and no development until she had a nanite body in Ian's stories onwards. Regardless, I think the comic had good plots here and there, and the storyline itself had full of potential for many stories, Karl Bollers I felt, did some pretty good stories.

Wonder what the comic would have been like if Ben Hurst wrote them instead..

  23. Two words: bad writing. Antoine was annoying and useless, Bunnie and Rotor underused, Sally too perfect, Sonic dumb, and plots ranged from generic to terrible. "Blast to the Past" is atrocious. I think the wort part is hyper. I kept hearing that SaTam is so awesome and Robotnik is the bestest villain and so on... It isnt, it really isnt.

I see, Sonic dumb is what I thought at first but he sort of has a fun personaility for me. But yeah, Sonic has matured out of that age. I did like how the show had character development particularlly Tails and NICOLE as we saw Tails starting to be more involved towards the end of the series and NICOLE starts to speak Sonic's slang, interesting for a plain computer device to do. Wish we could see more and Ben Hurst's future plans for a third season sounded interesting as Tails does get more involved and NICOLE would slowly reveal herself to be actually a mobian who was turned into a computer by Robotnik. I do like a sinster and more serious Robotnik I guess but being humorous an=t times.

So do you prefer how the comics writes the SATam characters instead? How about the period when the comics were still in their SATam days before Robotnik died in issue 50? Did you like that period?
