  1. Can we stress than this is a decision of Archie's executives, not an Ian Flynn's one? I've seen in other sites people lashing at him, and I think it's not fair.

The minimum you could of some people is basic reading comprehension, but, on the other hand, we are talking of guys who spent rivers of bits arguing over the color Sonic's eyes or arms.

I know it's not Ian's fault, or even his decision. But you are right, it isn't fair for Ian to be getting all the blame for this. Though I think people have calmed down now.

  2. Huh, I've just noticed something about the ad image. Look closely at STH #259's variant cover (spoilered due to size):

    Theatre-Promo-2_1.jpg

Looks like they've replaced the Sonic 2006 Radical Train with the one in Bullet Station from Sonic Heroes. I'm fine with that, and I think it actually looks better now.

  3. So I was recently looking over at the Bumbleking forums and found this... interesting topic: http://www.bumblekin....php?f=4&t=7415

You may notice that pretty much everyone (both there and even outside the forums) aside from a few are calling this a blatant cash-grab and a gimmick. And you know what? I actually think they're mostly right. It basically just amounts to making you buy the same issue twice, with what is likely a one or two-page difference at the end. While you could argue that they won't be necessary to understand the next issue/arc, to me it still sounds a little bit greedy. This really doesn't help matters here either, as practically all the issues on this website are the standard covers. Luckily, this appears to simply be a 'test' of-sorts, so it won't be permanent (and judging by most people's reactions, I doubt it will return anytime soon). But I'd like to know what you guys think about this: Could it possibly work, or is this just a cheap money-grabber?

  4. Well, the next Universe is about Knuckles, maybe they will drop some info or explain something about the fate of his kind.

Unfortunately, I highly doubt that. Unless you mean the video game echidnas (Tikal, Pachacamac etc.), there won't be any kind of reference to previous echidnas.

  5. Okay, that's three topics now that I've seen this. Forgive me if I don't have any business here, but can the moderators do something about this?

I mean it's one thing to give an opinion, but I find this to be taking it too far. Especially when it's being posted multiple times and places all at once!

  6. Also, why does both sonic comics and the mega man comic all start with "Sprin"?

Looks like it's supposed to say 'Spring'-something, which makes me think that they're just the covers and solicitations being prepared for this Spring. The only one that sticks out from the rest is the SU arc, which looks like it'll be called 'Total Eclipse'. (Hmm...) Also, I highly doubt that the Mega Man 3 arc will be 10 issues long as:

    1) that would make it the longest/second-longest arc in the series. (The latter if you count 'Worlds Collide')

    2) that would mean the future game adaptations would also likely be as long, if not longer, which really doesn't sound good.

My guess is that there'll be 2 issues post-MMX Crossover (likely covering Gamma's creation), then the main 4-issue MM3 arc, then an original storyline.

  7. Hmm... Alternate Dimension Eggman? *looks at Master Nega* Uh-oh! Also, just the idea of an episode based around alternate dimensions makes my brain hurt. On the other hand, I wouldn't be surprised if they try to find a way of bringing the main series characters in for a (likely very) brief cameo somewhere in that episode.

That behind-the-scenes definately got me even more intrigued. I'm certainly pleased with Travis Willingham's new Knux voice. Sounds closer to Scott Drier from SA2/Heroes. Mike Pollock as Eggman and Roger as Sonic are the same as ever. 'Tis a shame that Kate Higgins won't be returning as Tails, but at least Colleen Villard (who currently voices Charmy Bee in the main series) doesn't sound that bad. And then there's Amy... just, ugh. Even though they're trying to make her a more useful character, I just can't deal with Cindy Robinson's 'Minnie Mouse' voice any longer! *sigh* Oh well, you can't win 'em all, I guess. As for the video game, I really don't have much to say on it outside of what I've said before. I'm still cautiously optimistic for both the game and TV series, so we'll just see what happens later this year.

  8. It used to be Robotnik, but for all intensive purposes it's now (and always will be) Eggman. Also, if you're wondering which game stories have happened (and thus, won't get any adaptations now), basically every game except for Unleashed, Lost World (the most recent game) and Sonic Chronicles, but that last one is for... other reasons.

  9. I always thought it was more that they hate the prequels (though I enjoyed Episode III enough), and praise the originals (namely Episode V). But on the topic of Sonic, I'm on a reletively similar boat to you, Joe; I started reading quite a ways into the comic (roughly Issue #220) so I'm not as attached to some characters as others. However, the reboot has sadly affected a lot of readers, but thankfully many of them (and I'm sure everyone here) have taken it well, so it's not all bad news.

Anyway, welcome to the world of Archie's Sonic The Hedgehog, Joe. Enjoy your stay here, as we're headed straight towards a loose adaptation of Sonic Unleashed.

  10. So it's goofball team vs. goofball team, with Knux caught in the middle? Sounds pretty fun. I'd also like to point out the ominous Gaia Monster eye patterns; it looks like it really will be complete 'chaos' out there. I'm not sure who he'll run into, though; it could be Mighty and/or Ray (that would be cool), it might be Thrash (that would be... awkward) or another character we haven't seen in a long time. (Or it could be Chip.) But these are just some vague guesses. We'll see who it is soon enough...

  11. Oh hey, thanks for that Dylan. I'd been meaning to get around to posting the solicits and covers (and the Universe ones, thanks for that too), but personal matters got in the way. Anyway, I'm interested to learn about the new characters, as I don't think we've seen many aquatic Mobians before (unless you count Akhlut's pod).

  12. Alright, time for my thoughts on Issue #34:

First, 'Shadows Of The Moon'. I thought it was pretty good, and I liked that it was mostly from the perspective of the Wily-bots rather than Mega Man & Co. Which makes sense, since his story is basically just retracing his steps from the last arc. I enjoyed seeing Pharaoh Man and Plant Man again, and the revelation that Shadow Man is a Ra Moon creation was... pretty obvious, but cool nonetheless. (Could that mean he used to be a Stardroid?) I also really enjoyed the dialogue between the MM3 Robot Masters, which makes me kinda sad that they'll have to be destroyed soon... well, whenever they get around to actually doing the MM3 adaptation, that is.

And Break Man confronting Tempo/Quake Woman at the end... that should be interesting.

Then there's 'The X-Factor'. I liked it, but it didn't really excite me that much. Then again, this was just a simple 'how the Reploid Era began' story, so for what it was, it did it's job just fine. Overall, this was a great issue to read, both wrapping up one story while starting another, and I'm definately looking forward to the next issue.

  13. Hmm... I think I'll go with these three bosses (in no particular order):

#1) Egg Dragoon from Sonic Generations

(I'm starting to sense a pattern here...) As the penultimate boss fight of the game, I felt that Eggman's Prototype-1 was a fitting choice, and I found it to be a very fun boss fight. Also, as Skye said, you get the choice of many different tracks (though the Dragoon's remix is still good), my personal choice being 'Un-Gravitify' from Riders 2. Of course, that's not to put down the original Werehog fight either, but I found this one more enjoyable. Time Eater, on the other hand...

#2) Egg Salamander from Sonic Rush

"Too black, too strong, too black, too strong..." Facing both Eggmen as Super Sonic & Burning Blaze was very enjoyable for me, as it felt like a true 'final countdown' fight, as losing would result in Eggman either taking over both dimensions, or destroying them in Eggman Nega's case. Also, the interactions between them, both before and after the fight, are fun and intriguing at the same time. Seriously, pay attention to what Nega says... he's not everything he claims to be.

    #3) E-101 Beta Mk.II from Sonic Adventure

Less on a gameplay perspective, and more story-wise, this fight really sticks with me. As E-102 Gamma, you've 'rescued' all of your 'siblings' by releasing the Flickies inside them. All except for two: E-101 Beta, whose been upgraded and is ready to beat you... and Gamma himself. You know what the outcome will be; both robots must destroy each other to save the other. And as you finally seem to defeat Beta, he shoots you right in the face. What follows is a very touching moment, one of the best in the series if you ask me. You could argue that I'm looking too deep into the subject (...again), but I still stand by what I've just said.

  14. Hey guys! Just thought I'd show you all this quote from Ian Flynn himself, about the question of "Is this going to be a sequel to Sonic Unleashed, or an adaptation?"

Thus far, three games haven't happened in the new continuity:

    - Sonic Unleashed

    - Sonic Lost World

    - Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood

    Why not Sonic Unleashed?

It will become more clear once "The Chase" is done (STH#258-259), but suffice to say, if Unleashed had already happened, a lot of the tension and mystery of the "Shattered World Crisis" would be lost.

    Why not Sonic Lost World?

Going forward, I'd really like to keep to the order of the games. Thankfully, the games after Shadow are fairly self-contained, allowing me to "wait" on doing Unleashed until now.

    Why not Sonic Chronicles?

Mr. Penders. I'm not sweating it at the moment, though, since Chronicles is supposed to take place a few years after the main timeline anyway. We have plenty of stories to tell until then.

Hope that clears up a majority of questions about the arc for now. It is indeed what I thought it would be: an adaptation of the game with the comic elements mixed in.

  15. Alright, here are my thoughts on Issue #257:

It was a decent story, in my opinion. Seeing the FF working as a team (or teams, I guess) for the first time in ages is wonderful, and even Big is once again showing that he isn't useless. As for Sally's emotional talk, like The Jest said above, it makes sense given what she recently discovered, but personally it's good to know that it won't last forever... I'll explain more in a second. G.U.N.'s new Helicarrier vessel is a sight to behold, and it's interesting to see some new faces in the group. And yes, Team Dark are doing their part to save the world... well, most of Team Dark, anyway. As always, Eggman is great to watch, especially with Orbot ONCE AGAIN reminding him of his mistake. Needless to say, it's now become a MAJOR annoyance to him. I'm definately looking forward to 'The Chase', and to seeing E-107 Eta.

I'm personally getting the feeling that the upcoming/ongoing 'World Adventure' arc (I prefer to call it that) will probably be similar to the original comic's Adventure arc; same/similar story, characters and events from the game (albeit with a different cause of the world breaking apart) but with the comic's characters, locations and more inserted into the mix. (Oh, and some Universe side-stories to go along with it too, of course.) But we'll just have to wait and see if that really is the case. Now, one other thing I'd like to point out is the constant theme I found in this issue: Irriversability. Yes, the old world is gone forever, and I'm fine with that. However, notice when Tails is telling Sonic that they all might forget their old memories down the line. Sonic reassures him, but you can tell even Sonic is unsure about it. Now, I'm not going to have a big hissy-fit over the loss of the last 243 issues' continuity (not counting the Genesis or WC issues), and if/when the FF lose their old memories, that's fine by me as long as Ian Flynn continues to make entertaining and exciting stories. But I can understand why anyone here or anywhere would be upset by this revelation.

On the bright side, Gemerl is now confirmed to be in the new continuity. All I can say is...

  16. Guy, guys. You're missing the best part about this game... YOU GET TO PLAY AS OTHER CHARACTERS BESIDES SONIC! *ahem* ...Excuse me for that outburst.

Anyway, the gameplay looks pretty interesting from what I saw, giving it a unique style while playing with each characters abilities: Sonic's Homing Attack, Tails' flight, Knux's... er, digging and climbing (I'm sure he still has the glide) and Amy's hammer-spin. It looks like it could be co-op based which excites me... until I remember that I don't have many people to play with. :( And hearing that it's made by former Naughty Dog members reminds me of the original Crash Bandicoot and Jak trilogies. :D

My only criticisms are the same as the ones I posted on the other topic page, so check over there to see them. Now I need a Wii-U... oh, and PLEASE don't let the 3DS version suck. (Actually, I have the perfect solution for that... stop letting DiMPS make tie-ins to the console versions! Let them make their own unique games again!)

EDIT: So the guys behind the recent Sly Cooper releases are handling the 3DS version? In that case, it sounds like another game I've gotta keep an eye out for...

  17. Well, I've found a trailer/sneak-peek at the series for you guys, so here it is:

I... er, I... *sigh* I don't know what to think, honestly. It's good to see Tails and Eggman still being voiced by their current voice actors (though is it just me, or does Mike Pollock seem to fluxuate between his Eggman and Eggman Nega voices a bit?), while Roger's Sonic I find is... meh. I don't know, but to me he just starts sounding a little bit worse each time he returns as the Blue Blur. Don't get me wrong, I certainly don't hate the guy, I just personally find his Sonic voice to be very... meh.

I'm very mixed on the designs (no surprise there). Sonic with blue arms doesn't bother me (see: overreacting to green eyes) and I actually really like Tails' design. It kinda reminds me of a cross between his Riders and Secret Rings (as Ali Baba) appearences. Knux and Amy, on the other hand... well, I won't get too worked up over Amy since, if anything it appears to stop any 'panty-shots' from ever appearing (see: Sonic Advance 3 Special Stages) but Knux is just... ugh. Ah well, as long as the series is entertaining, I'm sure I can get over these problems. (Heck, people aren't fully agreeing with the Sly Cooper movie designs, but I'll still watch it regardless.)

Also, I'd like to point out that any comments on the video game tie-in (please don't suck!) should be noted in the seperate topic that Shadow/Cheery made, not this one.

  18. I'm still a little convinced it's because there's going to be another Unleashed game, like Iizuka himself had talked about making one day.

I'm still skeptical on a few things that Iizuka has said in the past, especially last year where he said, among other things: Hyper Sonic doesn't exist, the broken part of the moon is nearly never facing Mobius/Earth/Sonic's World, and that he wants to try and incorporate the Wisps into most, if not all future games... Yeah, no thanks Iizuka.

  19. Hey guys! Here's the solicitation for the upcoming Issue #36:

    MEGA MAN #36

On the eve of the MEGA MAN/MEGA MAN X Crossover comes the TWISTED tale that could only be called "A Chance at Redemption"! Dr. Wily is a free man, cleared of wrongdoing, and it's all thanks to--Mega Man?! Can even an evil villain like himself live with a lie of that magnitude? Can he enjoy a life of robotics research next to his “frenemy” Dr. Light? Will the promise of power in Gamma be far too tempting? The answer to all your burning questions lie in this mega-fun issue! Plus, be sure to pick up both regular and variant editions to read both SHOCKING "post-credits" alternate endings! Includes cover art by Patrick "SPAZ" Spaziante and a stunning "TRIAL OF DR. WILY" variant cover from rising MEGA-star Brent McCarthy!

Another crossover? Alternate endings? ...I'm not sure what to think of this. What are your thoughts, guys?

  20. Well, that was an issue. So far, this is seeming to be similar to PPP, with the first two issues being nothing special. With that said, we'll just have to wait and see how the second half goes. As for the story itself, it's interesting to see Eclipse as a true 'sibling' to Shadow, and I'd like to see more of him in the future (assuming he doesn't die in the end). However, I don't find Black Death to be anything special, and Spider Troupe still don't stand out that much to me. It's good to see that they actually brought gas masks with them (with Rouge's looking a bit familiar to SA2 fans...) with Black Death's reaction pretty much being "Well, crud." And Shadow turning evil... yeah, that won't last long, but seeing Shadow as an antagonist again should be some fun next issue. Overall, a decent part, but still nothing amazing.

  21. Actually, the Mega Man comic is in another multiverse, entirely seperate from Sonic's multiverse. The only link the two worlds ever had was through the Skull Egg Zone, which obviously no longer exists after the Super Chaos Control(s) were performed by Super Sonic and Super Mega Man in the end of the crossover.
